I love hearing the "Dooley needs more time" excuse. His successor at La. Tech has righted the ship in the same amount of time. Strong has taken a hapless L'ville team and made them a top 20 team in less time.

Don't get me wrong. I think he would be great. I just don't believe we would spend the money. If I'm wrong I will be happy about it.
My posts are based on what I want crossed with what I think can and/or will happen.

Why don't you think we'll spend the money. I know Hamilton was tight, but this is a different admin. Hire a big name coach that recruits know and it would seem you could save money on the recruiting budget. We have the largest recruiting budget in the country, spend 5 million on a coach whose name can recruit alone and you'll dave millions in recruiting.

Super Bowl Ring >>>>>>than BCS Ball. That alone is worth millions if they can do it.

I hear you. But I also hear about the budget every time I ask what's going on.

I believe you. But you can't expect Hart to say anything any different. For any other reason it's unethical in the first place for a person in charge of a dept. to openly discuss a replacement for a current coach.

Exactly. If Dooley drops the next 3-4, I think that tune will change.

I want Gruden. If we're going to be a bear let's be a grizzly. Go for the biggest name out there. Stop hoping a guy can win. I would happy with Strong, don't get me wrong, but Gruden would put all eyes on us again.

Feel the same way..Totally hear you.:clapping:

If I could pick anyone I wanted it would be that guy named Smith up in Chicago.
that's my Dream hire.

And the timing. I think he survives this yr.

I am not saying it's Gruden. But think about this...

In November, Gruden is named the head coach at UT. Tennessee automatically becomes a player for all top recruits, and more importantly, UT merchandise is sold everywhere.

Spring forward to the spring game...

SOLD OUT. Please tell me how much money does this bring into revenue for the UTAD? How much does the Knoxville economy booooooom for that day?

Does Strong have that affect? What about Peterson? Only a big name imo. Bama changed the game, literally.

Unless he beats Bama I can't see Dooley staying another year. Attendance will more than likely not be that good the rest of the year. Especially if we get beat by MSU.

Realistic option IMO
During the previous coaching circles, I'd have to agree. However, seems to me that Chucky has been hanging around the punch bowl lately...if you catch my drift.

I don't think the job was "the right opportunity" before. It was a nightmare rebuilding project. Dooley has done a good job cleaning up much of the mess and resetting the table. To the extent that I personally think Gruden is now viewing it as a golden opportunity if the opening was there after this season. He is a good "closer" if nothing else.

A chance to coach Tyler Bray and a host of NFL talented receivers, would have to be tempting if he were seriously considering the notion of coaching again.

What is more, is that the opportunity to coach is not an open-ended prospect. He realizes that after 5+yrs away from the profession, the window starts to close rapidly.

I think only a loss to Bamer would allow him to keep his job. Losing to either MSU or USCjr would seal the deal. Why? Because we have the talent to do much better than that. A loss to Bamer is expected, but any others and that gives all of us who doubt Dooley the ammunition we need to say "we told you so."

I want him to turn it around, but again, I have my reservations that he will. So far, he's proving me right.

We just went toe to toe with a very good dawg team. I think we have a punchers chance against the "Bama Brotherhood".

One of my friends is a Bama fan. We were eating at Calhouns before the game and he was the only bama fan in our group of about 10-12 people. A drunk bammer walks up to the table and says "they got you surrounded, need any help?". My 11 yr old son stands up and asked him "who's gonna help you?". The whole place erupted in laughter. It was awesome.

*slow clap*

You are to be commended on your parenting skills.

OTOH, your friendship skills need a bit of honing.....friends don't let friends be a Bama fan.

:)

The Cal fans came in expecting to kill us and they were acting like aholes. Till we beat them down.
Most Bammers act this way too.

I hate Bama more than homemade sin. But, the hands down absolute worst fans I have encountered are OSU fans. They make Harvey Updyke look like the Pope.

Do any of you guys feel as though John Gruden may be more willing to take a look at college football coaching due to the work he has been able to do through ESPN with draft eligible QBs? He seems to really enjoy working with the kids. The sit downs he had with RG3, Andrew Luck, and Ryan Tannehill were great. Breaking down film with them you could feel the passion in his voice. That is the kind of energy we need circulating around Knoxville.
