When Hart rolled the dice on all the new coaches contracts I think he was saying to DD you have this year and 2013 to figure it out. Barring a losing season (5-7) DD will probably get 2013 to show if he has what it takes, that way after 2013 and we still are no better then we will have no coaches under contract and can start with a clean slate for the next staff.

Not a chance in hell and here's why...

Gruden has a very easy job that pays many Millions of $$$ and feeds his football fix.

He's not stupid enough to take on rebuilding Tennessee and risking his already tarnished coaching reputation.

UT also doesn't have the money to buyout CDD and staff and to try to pay the huge money it will take to get another good coaching staff.

Gruden would be a total idiot to leave such a easy job like he has now.

VFL...GBO!!!

Its so obvious that you have never coached a day in your life.

You think if Tennessee goes 6-6 Dooley will be back?

Hart helped hire the coaches, firing them after 1 year would not bode well for him. At the end of 2013 if a new staff is required, the blame will be on DD and not on Hart. Hart will look like a guy who gave DD every opportunity to succeed and in the end it was just not meant to be.

It may not be a popular view on things but given the coaches contracts, current available revenue and the fact Hart was involved in the hiring of the new staff he has to show to potential coaching replacements he will be fair.

How would it bode for Tennessee bringing back Dooley after a disaster of a season? Which given the remaining schedule would mean a loss to Ky or Vandy. The size of the check Hart will offer will supercede any questions about him being fair.

If Dooley were brought back it would be because Hart screwed up royally. It would also be the end of Dave Hart as athletic director for screwing up an already agreed upon deal.

If he loses these next 3 games, he will be gone mid season.

Its not like Dooley fired the assistants that left either. They left for other jobs because they saw the light at the end of the tunnel, that being they'd be searching for jobs after this season.

Hart is only responsible for DD. The assistants fall under DD's responsibilities. Hart will not and cannot be judged on the assistants that lose their jobs. He will be judged on who he brings in as the next HC and whether or not that individual can get it turned around.

In the eyes of potential coaching candidates the view of Hart will be large and being a man of his word will be taken into consideration if a big name coach is being courted for the next HC.

If Neyland is at 70 to 80% capacity the rest of this year Hart will roll the dice to the end of 2013. Fans want wins and I am no exception but from a PR perspective I can easily see this being the likely scenario.

A top name HC is not going to consider coming here if the AD who helped hire the replacement coaches fires them 1 year into their 2 year contracts. It is not that difficult to understand when you are looking at things from a potential HC replacement or from Hart's perspective.

Are both of these your opinion or do you have a link that says he is no longer interested and coaching and never will as long as ESPN will employ him?

If Hart gave Dooley the green light to drop pretty much his entire staff to replace them with better coaches you have a point. Unless there is a lot of missing information out there that didn't happen.

If we lose 4 or 5 assistants after this year would that push Dooley into 2014?

If we have a bad year (i.e. 7-6 or 6-7 or for that matter I think 8-5 now), I think that this is what we will see. Gman, I have basically thought and said the same all along. If you paid his buyout, the staff's buyout, and hired a new 5 mil coach with a high priced staff, it would take a decade to even start to break even given the current financial issues that the program has. And many that poo poo this will claim increasing sales first year. I think it would be a wait and see from the fans on ticket sales the first year and if the coach doesn't do miraculous things in 13, then sales will most likely be flat for 2 more years. I think that a win in two weeks, another good game with Bama and you will lock in whatever revenue that you are going to get for the next two years. I don't think the AD will take that 4-6 mill gamble by firing an entire staff this year.
