Jon Gruden thread (merged)

Michigan State was under NCAA sanctions when Saban took over.

Also, people keep throwing out the early-career records of some of the greatest coaches in the game. That's as useful as me digging up the records of coaches who had three .500 seasons followed by a steep decline.

Not useful perhaps because facts are not convenient to the purpose of the thread?

Ok I'll bow out of the thread for the most part. May the Gruden worship continue unabated.

I'm bummed out b/c Dooley is still the coach and is getting tiresome..ok..has gotten tiresome.:ermm:

Bring on Gruden!:dance2:

I'm really gonna miss him.^^^^:crossfingers:

There's no evidence that Dooley is the next Saban, other than the similarities of their first three W/L records.

What's next? Going to dig up the beginnings of Gen. Neyland?

We're looking at the on-field performance to this point and the fact that this was a desperation hire. In other words, we don't have to stay tied to this hire for too long, if a better future can be found elsewhere.

That said, if the Vols beat, say, both MSU and SCar, this thread will likely die.

Hmmmmmm Brings up the issue as to whether or not the entire thread should be deleted. I don't like half hearted half informed "fans" trying to further erode fan support. IMHO

No because you choose to come to this thread there Gestapo. If you don't like the topic, whose title is fairly clear what the discussion is about (John Gruden Thread); then exercise your right to not join in. What you are doing is "trolling" in its purest form, entering a topic in order to say how "stupid" or "awful" that topic is is trolling by its purest definition.

I would LOVE to have Gruden, don't get me wrong, but my overall opinion is Derek Dooley is an embarrassment to the great tradition of excellence at UT and that needs to be remedied. It's my opinion, I own it, and if you do not like it hit ignore brotha. I think dissenting opinions advance discussion, simply calling a thread stupid or needs to be deleted......with nearly 8k posts especially.....should show there are a lot that share that opinion and I think exponentially more that think it and do not voice that opinion as vocally as others.

Championship rings apparently do not count for much.

Gruden's .524 record is your idea of excellence?

No fair. Yall drug me back in. Not my fault:eek:lol:

The fact is, with only a handful of exceptions, any college would LOVE to have him as head coach.

No fair, I'm discussing excellence with a person posting with an Obama Phone.

So why is Gruden not coaching somewhere? Why did he quit to begin with? What if we ever hire him & he goes 1-11 his first year? Who do you guys go to next? Not having him at least gives y'all unrealistic hope.

Gruden had some sort of deal where he got money from his previous job on top of his ESPN salary unless he takes a coaching job or something like that. I have heard-read this several times, but if its a Internet rumor thing it's very well coordinated.
