Anybody who doesn't think the recruits (especially top pro-style QB's and skill players) will be kicking the door in to play for this guy are living in a fantasy world.

His name alone will attract the top talent across the country in his first 2 years. For all of you Dooright "attrition" lovers - he will also reduce that to nearly zero.

The Titans play on MNF this year in Nashville. I'll be there with my "Dear coach Gruden, Save us. " sign.

Anyone who thinks Gruden will be our next coach isn't firmly living in reality.

I bet I have ignored fifty threads the past couple days

I wonder how many more Doorights will come around after we get pounded by 20 between the hedges?

My guess is the "stability" and "anti-attrition" lovers will be reduced to 2% of the fan base.

Maybe then we can get change started.

Ignore the threads now. You won't have enough time or hands to do so in a couple of weeks.

I don't care if we have to rebuild our whole roster again. We need a better coach because Dooley isn't getting it done thus far. He'll be lucky to leave our program with a higher sec winning percentage than a pitcher in the national leagues batting average

Anyone who thinks Dooley is going to lead Tennessee to championships isn't living firmly in reality.

In 2008, did you expect Monte Kiffin to be the Vols' DC the next season?

Gruden is a lock. Book it. Ink is already dry. Done deal. Heard it here first. I know somebody. TIFWIWIMOWTFGBOVFLVBJMOBBQ.

Seriously.

In all fairness, no.

Also, in all fairness, I didn't expect Dexter McCluster to run all over that Monte D either.

I guess anything is possible but probable is a different story.

Why, exactly, do many people on here pine for Gruden? Is it just because you actually know his name and that he was affiliated with the UT program?

He's never been a head coach in college. He was a grad assistant here, but likely never had to shoulder a great burden on the recruiting trail. People underestimate how much time and manpower it takes to really be an excellent recruiter, and he's never dealt with it on this level. What makes you think he has the ability to go into Alabama or Georgia to snatch elite players from Saban or Richt?

I'm not even convinced he's that good of a coach. He won the Super Bowl in his first year with Tampa Bay with Dungy's talent. Aside from that, he had a good year in Oakland that ended in the AFC championship game. The rest of his years were either mediocre (which isn't good enough) or flamed out early in the playoffs.

Seriously. Why is he the answer? Honest question. I don't have anything against him, but I see nothing that would automatically put him at the top of any wish list.

I agree with your concerns about recruiting and such.

Gruden is a good NFL coach, but his offensive is based on a pure west coast offense. The biggest concern I would have is how complicated his offense is. He was known for having a really steep learning curve for his skilled positions to get on the field. That is why he always went after the older QBs. Gannon in Oakland, Brad Johnson and Garcia in TB. It was taking the young skilled players a couple of years to truly grasp his playbook, reads and approach.

So, put him in as a college coach and he has less practice time with a younger group of players who are distracted by class and the college lifestyle. With only 3 or 4 years to be in the system, Gruden would have to change his offense or greatly simplify it, just to field skill players that execute his game plan.

Recruiting would absolutely go through the roof. He's probably the biggest name out there among current / former coaches and his ESPN gig has improved his star status even more.

The other thing is the guy lives and breaths football 24/7. He would be a warrior on the recruiting trail and I think he's a damn good coach as well. For the idiots who say that was Dungy's Tampa Bay team, well that was Gruden's Raiders team that they played in the Super Bowl that year.

According to a booster that I know who had lunch with Grudens mother-n-law last month before the season started. Chucky wants to get back into coaching and for 5 million a year Chucky can be obtained. TIFWIW

People can laugh all they want, but I have gotten to know his brother Jay over the last year and a half. He's flat out said John would absolutely take the Tennessee job but it would have to come open in the next year or two.

I agree. Dooley just doesn't recruit at a high enough level and his coaching remains totally suspect after 5 years of being a HC.

If there was ever a year for him to make a move it would have been this season because the talent on the roster is going to dip downwards once again after this season with the likelihood of Bray, Hunter and maybe even Patterson leaving. Looking at the next 3-4 years this season is by far their best chance of getting a signature win and making a move.

What has been said about the Tennessee Job the first time around? Was he not offered enough money?

Agree completely, and that is why the way things played out Saturday are frankly devastating for Dooley. When you cannot be competitive in that environment against that FL team/coach, you certainly do not inspire confidence for the remainder of this season.

I think at that point in time he wasn't ready to jump right back in to coaching. Jay said the timing would have to be right (in the next year or two), but this is the job he wants.

Exactly my thoughts. I'm willing to let the rest of the season play out but after Saturday I dont see how many people can have much confidence going forward.

I hope CDD has sucess but if he doesn't then this would absolutley be the best hire this program could make.
