Josh Dobbs about to have the Opportunity of his NFL Career

Uh, no. The ball was not loose when his arm started forward. There is plenty of evidence that shows that. I'm not sure what some of you are looking at.

That's an egregiously bad call.
Lol. They literally showed it. Open your eyes. Take off your foil hat, bro.

It certainly wasn't a successful forward pass. However, if the ball went backwards or straight up, you should make the call for the defense. But since it went forward, that should been an incomplete pass. Dobbs did not get that call, but I'm fairly comfortable stating that any of the top quarterbacks would get that call. Particularly upon review.
Not only went forward.. but went 12-15 yards.. no way a fumble goes that far

Yep there is some “celebrity favoritism” for sure. TL was not that good at all and defense won the game. The overthrow in the end zone he made was an awful pass.
You'd think TL balled out with the way the halftime crew was talking him up even though they were losing and Dobbs looked better

If you're coming into Augusta for the Master's, check out Hickory Knob. It's a great course on a State park. No frills other than an awesome course kept up very well. River Club is the best outside of ACC or Sage Valley, but 2k.

I have never played a state park course in GA that wasn't well kept, and great to play. And I've played a handful, not all. Victoria Bryant, Arrowhead, Little Ocmulgee, Veterans for quick memory recall. All were super nice. Having nice state park golf courses has always seemed to be a thing in GA. When I was single and a road warrior, there was room hehind the set in my Toyo 4x4 for golf clubs, a sleeping bag, and a backpacking tent. And they were always there. I'd pitch tent at a KOA, and save my money for playing a round. On the Carolina side, Clemson and Furman have very nice courses. On the GA side, Cateechee Golf Club in Hartwell will rival any course. It has a 142 slope rating, registered bird sanctuary, Tift 419 fairways, and Crenshaw bent grass greens (ala Augusta). But, GA Stae Park courses should never be overlooked.

Sure, the refs of the NFL and NCAA are going to rig games in such a way that an hourly schmoo can provide audio evidence of it. And it's never exposed! It's a miracle!

I believe that all day. Doesn't everyone?

Hourly schmoe isnt the sound engineer with his finger on the button.

There's a delay from live action to TV. It's not too hard to figure out.

Anyhow, back on the topic of Dobbs, I hope he did well enough to get re-signed by the Titans for next year. AS a fill in, he seemed to be the best option they had to close the season. Stats were OK but not great. But, considering the state of the Titans right now, that is not all on him. They had already lost 5 or 6 in a row before he was picked up. The positive for Dobbs is the acceptance of him from the other players and coaches, his authenticity, work ethic, and general culture fit in the locker room in his short stay.

Edit: Never was a Tannehill fan. Malik doesn't appear ready to go for next year in any sense of the word. Dobbs, even with low stats for the two games, actually looked like a QB, played like a QB. W/O a viable QB, and a couple good receivers, Henry's shelf life will grow shorter by the seasons.

It was clearly a horrible call.
The fact that they ruled so quickly is what I found odd.
I think it was a fumble, but I do agree that it was strange how quickly they got through the review. I thought it was obvious the ball started moving before the arm came forward . . . but not quite THAT obvious.

I don't know. I went through the clip above frame by frame several times, and I would have to rule it as an incomplete pass.
At the very least, it deserved a more thorough review. Vrabel should have thrown a red flag and done more to delay the call.

Vrabel has been a mystery this year. No doubt he has coached the titans up a little, and has playoff appearances reasonably acceptable. But this year, it's a mystery how he could open 7-3, and then go 0-7 with no answers. For me, jury kind of out on Vrabel. Titans moved to Nashville in 1999, and had a .510 wining %. Vrabel came in 2018 I think and only has a .600 winning %. Small improvement, but not earth shattering. We are more Falcons fans having grown up down the road a small bit. But not much going on there lately, and Titans being local market, are what we get mostly. Not a dedicated titans fan, but they can be fun to watch...sometimes. THis year not so much.

In live action, it looked like it had to be a forward pass, but on replay it was pretty obvious that he started losing control of the ball just before his arm came forward. I hate it for Dobbs, but it was an easy call to confirm in replay.

This is where the mechanics of the rule need to be clearer. Gene (or whoever the ref-in-the-booth was) says "the ball is starting to rotate"; you say "losing control"; but how do we define "control" in this situation. It's not the same as when a receiver has to "control" the ball before going out-of-bounds. The ball can't move at all in that situation. Clearly the QB could run around with the ball balanced on his hand like a waiter carrying a tray, then whip it forward without ever actually gripping it, and it would be a legal forward pass, not a fumble. But, by Gene's definition, this imaginary QB would have never had "control".

It's not nearly as simple as say "did the receiver get both feet inbounds", but it should be.

There has also been a good bit of discussion here on when the throwing motion technically begins. The rule, according to Operations.NFL.com says,"...any intentional forward movement of his hand starts a forward pass". So, technically, "hand" not "arm"; but I guarantee the vast majority of NFL replay officials are looking at the elbow, because "spirit of the law" seems to almost always trump "letter of the law".

Seems to me that in the olden days this would have been an incomplete pass 9 times out of 10 primarily for two reasons: 1) no frame-by-frame breakdown, but common sense, and 2) because the criteria seemed to not be "did the QB have complete control?" but "did the defender completely dislodge the ball?" (which, for me at least, is what the criteria should be).

Only played Arrowhead a few times as Cateechee was just right there. and when Cateechee first opened, they offered a players pass for $50/yr, which gave reduced green fees and access to the USGA system to record your scores for a registered handicap. There was a terminal in the club house and you just go enter your rounds each time. With that pass, I could play there cheaper than the scrub course on the other side of town. Oddly, I played no better at that course than I did Cateechee. Once the course finished growing in the pass disappeared. Like Arrowhead, Cateechee is in the middle of nowhere with great views. Arrowhead, imo, is as good, or close. Very plush for a state park course. And quite long. Just flatter topography. If you prefer to walk your round, Cateechee is not for you. It's not a mountain course, but they were very strict in not bulldozing the place flat. It's a registered bird sanctuary and all that. My personal course best there was an 81. It is a course that requires you to tame your hooks and slices.

Have you played Victoria Bryant, Little Ocmulgee, or Veterans Memorial. I know your job got you around the state a good bit. They overhauled Victoria Bryant and made a great 18 hole course out of it. Also was close to my house then. There are only 8 golf courses in the GA State Park system, and all are very fine courses, and maintained. Wish they had more.

Y’all are making me want to pack up the tent and my clubs and ride around for a good while!

Thanks!

Not much of a mystery to me. The QBs were injured, the offensive line was injured, the management traded their bet receiver and never replace him, the offensive coordinator called a run on every first down, etc. I am surprised they won more than 3 games. At least, they got rid of the GM and they will get rid of more of the staff. The rebuild will take 2-4 years.

I think Dobbs did great for what was happening. They ran on first down almost every play for no reason. They stopped doing the TE flats for some reason.

For seeing his first real action I think he showed promise.

With the team the way it is, it wouldn't have made it out of the first round anyway.

Maybe with a good front office, and new OC, Vrabel would be more effective and get better results. Doesn't seem inept.

If the OL doesn't get better it doesn't matter who they put in at QB. Joe Montana would have a hard time with that line.

With THAT offensive line, it has to be someone quick and shifty like a cat. Like draft Jalin Hyatt to play quarterback, go shotgun, and tell him just to run around in circles for 30 seconds to wear down the defenders flowing thru the invisible wall of protection.
