I hate these comparisons, and not taking up for Doofus at all, but just for comparing ROSTERS inherited:

Dooley inherited:

RB: Poole and Oku
WR: G. Jones, and D. Moore; Z. Rogers
QB: Matt Simms, and FR Tyler Bray
LB: Austin Johnson, Lamarcus Thompson, Vereen, Nick Reveiz, Lathers, and S. Frazier
DB: Art Evans, PW, Rod Wilks, Eric Gordon, J. Jackson

CBJ inherited:

RB: Neal, M. Lane,
WR: Dallas, Pig, Croom, D. Young, Bowles,
QB: Worley, Peterman, Dobbs, Ferguson
LB: AJ Johnson, Maggitt, B. Brewer, Sapp, Fugate, Propst, Bynum,
DB: Randolph, B. Moore, E. Gordon?, Orta, Coleman, L. McNeil, T. Thomas, D. Gray,

This doesn't count the incoming recruiting classes for each coach--but it's easy to see that CBJ has better material and talent than CDD inherited at every position listed except maybe LB--and it ain't even close.

And this is without even mentioning OL, DL, TEs...maybe CDD had a little advantage at TE--but no doubt that CBJ has inherited a MUCH better OL & DL.

Cheney sucks as an OC and we'll all see that with Bielema at Arky...Bielema will demand a physical run game and Cheney won't be able to deliver.

HOWEVER--we all KNOW we're better off with CBJ, but he STILL has to get it done on the field--and no reason to doubt that he will! GO VOLS! :salute:

Bryce Brown , David Oku, Aaron Douglass , Darren Myles Jr were inherited by Dooley and he lost them. Stocker at TE. Kiffin also got DaRick and Hunter on board before he left. Dooley left no Juwan James type young linemen. Dooley walked into NFL talent at QB, RB, WR, TE, and DB. Dooley's bad attitude and loser resume ran off some talent. That doesn't mean it wasn't here. BJ doesn't have that luxury.

I guess we will have to wait and see! I remember how we were impressed by Brent S. when he started against UNLV and played well. However; by week #4, Ainge was the starter and Schafer barely saw the field.

Dobbs seems to have a couple of things going for him that Schafer was lacking. Dobbs will probably be able to learn the complete offense quickly and Dobbs will probably not make any boneheaded off the field decisions...

It may turn out differently this time...
What may turn out differently this time? Schaeffer does not have any eligibility left & Dobbs has not played yet. It would seem that the two situations are unrelated.

I really hope he isn't the starter by that time. If so then I'd say the season will be already going down the tubes. You don't start a freshman a QB unless it is Johnny Football or someone of his talent level. Not even Teblow started as a freshman.

Tebow was under Chris Leak. Need I say more?

Probably true, but if we're 2-2 after the Gator game look for a big change.

Depends on why we're 2-2. RBs can't gain yards, defense can't stop the pass, rush or either, could be anything not related to QB play. If they're throwing interception after interception, overthrowing receivers, or something. Like I said depends on why we're 2-2.

Pretty sure most expectations for Dobbs is starting (or competing for that spot) in his (RS) junior season. If he starts earlier it will be because he is a phenomenal talent who flew under the radar.

Dobbs probably already knows the offense!

Clausen ran fairly well and did pull it down and run if he had too. I don't remember any designed run plays for him though. Manning ran a pretty mean bootleg, scoring on it at least a couple of times. Manning also faked runs either rolling out or scrambling to draw the defender in just like in the Dobbs video. I've seen Peyton do that many times. Of course, Tyler Bray is our slowest QB in history.

I really don't think we will see many designed run plays for Dobbs, occasionally maybe, but I like how cool and aware he looks in the pocket.

:eek:lol:

Ricky could run when forced a little bit, but Casey was perhaps the most unnatural runner I have ever laid eyes on. He could not move at all, and when he tried, it was cringe worthy.

Manning was slow, but he was intelligent enough to get rid of the ball, and could move enough to evade the rush. No need to bring up Bray, who was slower than molasses.

Ainge could evade when he had to. Crompton was the most mobile we've had this century (not counting Schaeffer or James Banks).

Excuse me, we may win a moral victory or two....does this help?

No

I understand you are trying to temper expectations. But, if 3-4 games is all Butch can pull off, this recruiting class will tank and our fanbase will be calling the moving vans.

He has some talent to work with. Yes, we are unproven at some skill positions but the talent is there. It's up to Jones to coach for the fullest potential. IMHO, 6 regular season wins may keep the hounds at bay, 7 allows him breathing room, 8 is possible.

3-4 wins = hotseat Tennessee style

I like what we see so far and think we may have our man. However, I do expect more than 3-4 wins and suspect Jones feels the same.
