Malik just needs reps, I don't know how anyone can watch that kid play football and not be impressed with his traits. He has every tool a modern day QB needs. He just has to put it all together. Watching every snap from the last 2 preseason games I can already see growth in his game. His td pass last night was his 3rd option
on the play. He is getting better everytime he steps on the field and a better grasp on the Titans offense. He has already jumped Woodside for number 2 (not saying much). Looking at the box score I get why people would be "meh". He had a handful of dropped passes last night and made a few bad plays but thats to be expected with him being in his second game. Some other plays are just houdini, making something out of nothing. People can have whatever opinion they want on the kid but I have no doubt he will be a top 5 qb in the NFL and one of the best players of his generation. My own personal opinion and I'm not going to derail this thread any longer. Excited to look back at this in a few years.
He has already used up his eligibility in high school and college. I don’t think he will be starting anywhere in 5 years.

Agree. He’s raw, but he looks to have the “it” about him. If he can be brought along slowly (and he can), he’ll be ready to take over when Tannehill leaves in 2 years and be a star.

Unfortunately, the Browns are going to go with Jacoby Brissett as starter for week 1. Dobbs has had a great pre-season thus far.
That would be crazy...I witnessed what Brissett did here in Indy and none of it was good.

I was really thinking with the Watson situation that this could be Dobbs biggest opportunity ever in the league...who knows maybe come week 2 or 3 he gets that shor still.

I think Dobbs could see the field. Especially if Brissett stinks it up.

Protecting their $200 mil investments. Dobbs comes in and leads them, do you bench him for when Watson is eligible?

You can’t protect money that’s already wasted. If by investment, you mean a gamble, then I understand. Even good gamblers know when to stop throwing good money after bad.

Between his play, lack of reps, and all this legal trouble, I’d be shocked if DeShaun Watson starts consecutive games for the Browns.

I realize preseason is 180 degrees different that reg season but why go with career losers? You know there what you’ll get. These guys are not .500 winning percent QBs unless they’re on a great team.

Josh Dobbs gonna make a believer out of a lot of dog pounders.

From ESPN:
CLEVELAND -- — Joshua Dobbs isn't trying to prove he belongs. He's showing it.

Dobbs ran for a touchdown and led Cleveland's offense on four scoring drives during a 21-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday in an exhibition watched by both teams' starters, along with soon-to-be-suspended Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Dobbs scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter — one play after a sensational 36-yard scamper — and had his second strong preseason performance for the Browns (1-1), who are hoping he can be their No. 2 quarterback behind Jacoby Brissett while Watson serves an 11-game suspension.

While he's only attempted 17 passes in the regular season since being drafted in 2017, Dobbs looks seasoned, prepared and confident.

“I always feel ready,” Dobbs said. "Whenever my number’s called, I prepared a ton, watched a lot of football in my time in the NFL. So whenever my number is called as you saw today, and last week and in the future, I plan on being prepared and going out and executing.”

Browns play the Panthers week 1. I won't be surprised if they try to sneak Josh Dobbs into the punt formation.......

Baker Mayfield will lead the Panthers to victory over the Haslem Browns.

I can't help but what these highlights and think how unfortunate it would be if Josh Dobbs never got a legit chance to start at QB in a real NFL regular season game. He's shown enough times in the preseason that he at least has enough talent to be given a chance to fail.
He deserves a crack at it. He is no worse than numerous others who have gotten that call.

Dream scenario:

Dobbs comes into a game for a struggling Jacoby Brisset and surprisingly dominates. Becomes a cult hero in Cleveland the first half of the season and leads them to playoff contention for when Deshaun comes back. Then Watson sucks and they lose a big game. The whispers begin. Is this actually Josh Dobbs team?

Dobbs is kinda built to take over a team kinda like Dak Prescott did with the Cowboys. He plays tough and is likeable and inspires others. That was Romos team in Dallas too. Watson is not even established in Cleveland. And has a reputation thats tough to stomach for a lot of people. And hasn't played a real game in 2 years.

Just a thought. If the window has ever been creaked open for Dobbs its right now.

This is the long shot im rooting for this season.

Even if he doesn't push Watson out of the picture (unlikely) maybe some other team takes a swing on him to be a starter. But he needs to get on the field first.

Grading Josh Dobbs So Far In The Preseason

After a tumultuous off-season bled into the second week of the pre-season, it was nice for the Cleveland Browns to finally get onto the field without the 230 million dollar question hanging over their heads.
With Deshaun Watson’s suspension finally decided, for the first time in a long time, the Browns could focus on football.

The most impactful, and the most unexpected contributor has been quarterback Joshua Dobbs.

The former fourth-round pick of the Steelers had bounced from Pittsburgh to Jacksonville and back to Pittsburgh before signing with the Browns this past off-season.

With limited playing time in his NFL career, the former University of Tennessee standout has been in the spotlight for the first time in his pro career this preseason, and he has made the most of his opportunity.

Week 1 vs Jacksonville
Dobbs saw his first action as a Cleveland Brown against the Jaguars.

He did not start the game, as fellow quarterback Deshaun Watson took the field to begin the contest, and brought a national audience with him.
Dobbs quickly took control of the offense when he replaced Watson, leading the Browns to 17 of their 24 points, including a touchdown pass to rookie running back Jerome Ford.

One could easily attribute Cleveland’s week one victory to the sixth-year signal caller, as he was the only quarterback to lead the Browns to points.

Overall, Dobbs was the most impactful player for the Browns in their win over Jacksonville, impressing many with his ability to quickly adjust and pick up a new offense.
Grade – A

Week 2 vs Philadelphia
Week two is most commonly the week of the preseason where the fewest amount of starters play, so with Watson and Jacoby Brissett on the sidelines, Dobbs got a full half to earn the QB2 role behind Brissett.

Dobbs once again shined, completing 14 out of 20 passes and recording 141 yards through the air, all while remaining a constant threat on the ground, where he piled up 47 yards and a touchdown.
Dobbs also pulled off a highlight play in the first quarter, breaking out of a sack before tight-roping the sideline and gaining 30+ yards before breaking into the endzone on another run later in the drive.

Dobbs was able to find his teammates through the air, something that has not always been the case early in his career.
Along with making the right read on almost every pass, Dobbs successfully put the ball between defenders on a few occasions, a skill he has greatly improved since his time at Tennessee.

Dobbs, again, was Cleveland’s most impactful player, contributing to all four of the Browns’ scoring drives.
Grade – A

Looking Ahead
Dobbs has solidified himself as the number two quarterback in Cleveland until Watson returns.

He has shown an understanding and command of the offense, and, similarly to Watson, is a threat in the RPO game.
Dobbs has carved out his role for this year, and if he continues to excel as the Brown
