Josh Heupel: 2-7 Vs. UF/Bama/UGA

If you’re happy with being 2-6 against them then good on you. I get Georgia isn’t losing much these days but it’s inexcusable with Florida and bama this year. And the way we lost to them
Florida was ugly but this is a rebuilding program STILL. LY fooled you into thinking things were back. They’re not. With NCAA investigation, reduced scholarships his first 2 seasons, were fortunate the program is competitive today.

I know it’s only his 3rd year but 2-6 against our big 3 opponents isnt going to cut it here.
Year three. Two of those programs are in the top four or five programs in college football. Go to bed and sober up. I’m hoping you’re drunk at least.

There was a time UT football and their coaches were judged on those games. A long time ago I might add. We're a middle of the road SEC team now. Not the upper crust..
The fans had a small taste of success last season and are afraid to call a spade a spade.

Changing the dumpster fire at qb might be the much needed start on the road to improvement. He shouldn't have went into this season with Milton being the unquestioned starter.

If Nico wasn't ready to play, might should have went to the transfer portal for a qb to challenge Milton.
Name a transfer QB that would beat Alabama today.

Bama has more talent. Bama is more physical. Bama is deeper. Bama was at home. While we do have some guys who will go toe to toe with an opponent, we don't have enough of them. I'm trying to avoid calling our team soft because we do have some guys who'll punch back, but I saw a lot of guys in white with some very bad body language tonight. You can coach, scheme and go full rah/rah with your team, but if the dog doesn't have enough fight in him, no amount of coaching will put it there. We're making progress, but it's going to take more time. I know this will sound like an old man talking about football in the old days, but I truly believe a coach needs to have the time to flip the roster he has inherited before you can really know where you stand. Yeah the portal can help, but it's not foolproof. Guys in the portal are in there for a reason. It's not the panacea that many seem to believe. We're in the middle of year 3 but the NCAA episode gutted an entire recruiting class so I think it adds a bit to this roster rebuild. Heupel has made some mistakes, but he's not dealing with a full deck here. He's using smoke and mirrors and has had a lot more success than I had expected. We just played a team that has lived in the top 5 in recruiting at their place....with their refs...and had 'em down 20-7 at halftime. Just didn't match their intensity in the second half. We'll recruit and get guys in here that will have some dog in them and those type second halfs won't be so common anymore.
All good points.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that 5-2 was all it'd take to get the Heupel haters out in force. Holy crap. The most explosive Tennessee team in history, the first blood drawn against Alabama since that ugly 16-13 game back in 2006, and we've already got people ready to fire Heupel. Crazy. 8-5, 11-2, 5-2 in year three, and people want to fire him. CRAZY.

That's two more than Dooley, Pruitt and Jones did in three years (Jones finally beat uga and Florida in year 4, but was 1-8 in his first 3 with a sole win over uga).

And we haven't played uga yet.

I know this is not the time to predict a win over them, but I for one will never concede a game to anyone, especially in Neyland, and especially against one of the so called "big 3".

And How much closer are we to winning the sec east? We are still middle of pack SEC team

I agree with you, maybe it is just an age thing. I’m 73 and have come to terms with I will probably never see another NTL Championship or maybe even another SEC conference championship.

But, at least I can now enjoy watching our games thinking we have much better chance of winning than previous years, plus enjoy watching a much more exciting team.

Guess what, that perception and mindset allows me to take the losses better, and take the wins better! Also, finally made me realize it is just a game.

He’s played these 3 (and all others) with smaller roster & NCAA investigation pending over him until 3 months ago. Get real people.

Hendon was a transfer that beat Bama last season. Bottom line is, he made a mistake sticking with Milton and it cost the Vols all the ground and goodwill they gained last season. The Vols are back to being a middle of the pack team.

Heupel needs a dynamic QB like Hooker for his system to be successful. Milton is not it, Nico might be but we won’t know until next year. Heupel is somewhat like Kiffin but without the douchiness

Because it is starting to look like last season was just a one season wonder.

Well 2 of those teams have had their coach in place forever ,the other (UF) we just lose games to for the reason is i guess we're supposed too. Tennessee in the meantime had been a dumpster fire for mostly internal reasons and bad coaching hires.. We can't judge them on those games because we haven't been on equal footing for quite some time..Hard to get back up when you've been down like we have.. Could have a better record against UF, but we don't. Saban is in his waning years, thank God. Maybe he takes his paid for refs with him.

That's ridiculous. What it looks like is that Heupel is working with what he's got this year, and so far he's gotten 5-2 out of it, which is a hell of a lot better than most years around here lately. 5-2. How terrible. Let's flush it all down the crapper and hire yet another coach and start over AGAIN. Good grief.

Dude, chill out. We beat Alabama for the first time in 15 years and Florida for the first time since 2016.

You can throw the 2021 records out. Starting with year two he’s 2-3. And Georgia is coming to Neyland without Bowers. Relax

Absolutely, this is a rational response. And sure last season heightened expectations, but last season TN had the #1 offense in the country lead by a QB who may have won the heisman if not injured.

CJH is ahead of schedule IMO.

I'm not saying he should be beating these teams in a regular basis. They all have recruiting advantages that tennessee doesn't have. UGA can just recruit Atlanta and field a team .
