Josh Heupel: 2-7 Vs. UF/Bama/UGA

Absolutely, this is a rational response. And sure last season heightened expectations, but last season TN had the #1 offense in the country lead by a QB who may have won the heisman if not injured.

CJH is ahead of schedule IMO.
Two of the most thought out and rational responses in this thread have been from a Florida fan and a UGA fan.

as others have said, why do you stop throwing the ball and playing to win in the first half to playing scared and just trying to hang on in the second half . Air the ball out, open up the play book, throw the kitchen sink of plays out there, and stop doing the same thing that failed ( running up the middle )

Should be 4-4 right now. The UF loss this year was pathetic. And today was just another example of our talent for folding under pressure. There’s still a hump that Heupel hasn’t figured out how to get over. I hope he does.

I appreciate that. Honestly, yes I’d be very upset about what happened today against Bama if I were a Vol. And I understand that much of these posts I don’t understand are knee jerk reactions by upset fans.

But CJH has done well so far. Hell, I’m concerned about what happens if or when he gets to field talent and depth comparable to GA or Bama. It’s going to make things very interesting. He is already competing without said talent and depth across the field.

Heupel is a top 10 coach in the country and your inability to be patient for him to change the dumpster fire he walked into is exactly why we suffered 15 years of hell. That kind of fandom deserved it.
Top 10? Says who? The play calling in the 2nd half and at Florida was atrocious. It might as well have been Butch coaching. Why on earth do you call aggressive plays in the first half, which our QB handled just fine and then go to this conservative stupid up the middle garbage. How many coaches will it take to understand that you can’t play not to lose. Horrible game plan. And don’t give me this crap that our QB can handle it. He’s not perfect but he has shown that he can handle a fast paced, aggressive scheme. Heupel gets an F for today and an F for the Florida game. It almost seemed like the SEC threatened him during the half and told him to tone it down.

We were 6th in the country last year. You people are stupid
That’s it, keep setting our expectations lower so we can be mediocre for another 20 years. What is this the 5th coach in a row that has inherited a dumpster fire. Poor coach, be patient it’s not his fault.

I know it’s only his 3rd year but 2-6 against our big 3 opponents isnt going to cut it here.
Are you serious? He took over an absolute train wreck. One of the worst situations ANY SEC coach has taken over in a long time. About 30 outbound portal players... I believe there were 9 starters among them.

UT wasn't competitive even before those losses before Heupel. And you want to start a conversation at this point about him not cutting it?

If he's still at 30% in 3 years... let's have this talk. Heupel has brought the first genuine hope this program has had since 2005.

Florida was ugly but this is a rebuilding program STILL. LY fooled you into thinking things were back. They’re not. With NCAA investigation, reduced scholarships his first 2 seasons, were fortunate the program is competitive today.
How many consecutive rebuilds do we have to go through? I’m getting old and have run out of patience. Seems like most have given up and are assuming we’re not supposed to be a great program. I guess I’m in the minority in that I think our standards should be higher. I have pride in my university and expect nothing but the best. You think Neyland would be happy that todays fanbase thinks that we are no better than a mid level SEC team?

I was about to reply to one of your earlier posts in a sarcastic and condescending manner, something to the point of “Yeah, get rid of his ass now, make sure to do it before Nov. 18th”. But then I read this post.

I think I can understand your frustration or impatience with things. But I don’t think the true TN fan base is willing to settle for mediocrity at all. I certainly don’t think you’re in the minority by expecting the best. I just think many haven’t given up faith that CJH might return the Vols to the top.

Are you truly so eager to send Heupel packing? You don’t think perhaps he may learn from mistakes like today? It’s obvious that he excels in some areas, who would you want to take his place?

Threads like this are why I usually stay off here after a loss. I don't know if the OP and people agreeing with it are drunk or just the kind of person who's own momma says "bless your heart" to on a daily basis.

Heupel has worked miracles here to date. Apparently some of you think that completely rebuilding a team from literally the lowest point in the over 120 year history of the program is quick and easy.

There aren't 10 coaches in the country who would have us where we sit right now, halfway through year three.

They don't remember when Tennessee was up there because half of them weren't alive then.. I'm getting old too and I'd like to see them get back to Atlanta a few times before I take the dirt nap..

Only year 3. I’m excited to see what he and Nico cook up together. This year is what it is with Joe
Joe is who he is and he didn’t cut it at Michigan due to that. Still not cutting it at 23. I don’t care that he’s a nice guy that’s been loyal to Tennessee. Move on. This staff made a mistake starting him over Hooker. Are they doing it again?

This 2023 team was never going to win the SEC without better QB play. Our ceiling is lower this year because our passing game is limited.

Defense and run game have been greatly improved. Once we solve that QB piece again in future years, we will be able to win it.

If Heupel continues to flounder into next season, I wouldn't mind seeing Jamey Chadwell get a chance to lead the Vols.

Yeah, we shouldn’t even try to compete with those big bad top-level teams that were never bad when they had bad coaches.
NEVER said that. I’m from an era almost 6 decades ago when we competed and defeated almost everyone routinely- I’m simply stating that in the PAST decade that Georgia and the tide were difficult to beat by anyone.

It does appear that way.
