I don’t think I commented one way or another on CJH hire. I will say that I did think we could do better but kept it to myself. I usually like to give someone a chance before I comment. I have spent several miserable weeks/years enduring losses where it just felt like we didn’t stand a chance, even to teams we usually beat. It wasn’t fun at all. This is a fun team and coaching staff to watch. I still get nervous before every game but that is what makes it so addictive. I honestly think we have coaches that are capable of putting a prepared team out there even with less talent than some of the top ranked schools. Thanks DW for bringing in coach Hype.

There are so many gems in this one and there wouldn't be a crow left alive in East Tennessee if everyone came and grabbed a plate.

I tried to explain to folks why they should like this hire but was generally met with "Noooooo we want Kiffin/Freeze!"

Some of my favorites "Neyland will be a ghost town if Heupel is hired. We should just have kept Pruitt." "Ceiling is 7 wins and recruiting in the 30s."

“Without Tillman we have no chance to beat Florida to say the least” yeah buddy we don’t care if you are sold or not. But on a serious note I don’t think it’s the whole defense. Just the secondary, and we have a great recruiting class coming in. Hope it improves

This guy is the best coach we’ve had since Fulmer and I don’t think it’s close. He obviously needs to recruit better talent for the defense but that will come with time. We desperately needed a different philosophy since there was no way we were going to outperform Bama and Georgia at their own game. This offense is really really difficult to defend and simulate in practice and gives us a real shot in those big games.

To be fair, its understandable that people were not excited. Every time we thought we had hit bottom over the past 15 years, it seemed like the floor just kept dropping out. When CJH was hired, it was pretty much the lowest we have been. I personally had mentally checked out as a fan during the Pruitt years. I was actually pretty happy about CJH, but I could also see why people might not be.

You have a point. I'm just amazed at how many people were crowing about how UCF had regressed under Heupel, but hadn't looked to realize that their 2020 season started great but collapsed when they were down to their 3rd string QB.

I'd probably say more of a moderately optimistic and hopeful, but was willing to give him a chance and not shite on him and the program in advance.

That said, I'm 100% onboard now. And I say that knowing full well we could lose 4 of the next 5 w/LSU on the road followed by three teams in the Top 10. That'd be a major disappointment based on where we are right now, but if you offered 8-4 in year two back when this thread was created, I bet 99% of the posters would've taken it. 9-3 or better? F'n ecstatic and overjoyed.
