Josh Heupel = Gus Malzahn 2.0

I think it would be interesting to identify some coaches who took over a historically good college football program which was coming off a decade plus of being down, in a major conference, and rebuilt that program back into one that competes at a high level.
Michigan maybe.
And that wasn’t immediate for Harbaugh.

Well I guess it would depend on what your definition of “being down” is. But Bob Stoops is the first name that comes to mind. Oklahoma had been pretty bad, at least for their standards, for most of the 90s. He obviously turned it around, and in a hurry.

Year 3 wasn't kind to Heupel at UCF.....here either. And we will go into next season with a lot of inexperienced players and a green QB.
If he finishes 9-4 (very likely) it will be tied for our second best record in 16 years (last year is number 1). Year 3 isn’t “kind” because year 2 was something we haven’t seen since the 90s.

At $9 million dollars, each point scored by the offense yesterday, was worth approximately $1,285,000.00. I realize more points have been scored this season, but against opponents which don't count. This is "Cornbread" 2.0. Just saying.

Have you thought about a new team?

Ordinarily, you'd get no argument about the time needed to develop players...especially HS linemen, but the portal has changed things. Heupel has a gap due to an entire class just falling apart when the Pruitt scandal hit. That's a huge blow even with the portal to help. Still, Heupel will need to kill it in the portal this year. Gonna have a lot of holes to fill I suspect.
I definitely agree we need to hit the portal hard on OL and CB especially

42 players are either true freshman or redshirt freshman (36 true IIRC). The majority of the starters are players he inherited.

If Heupel cant replicate his offense from last year...where do you think this is heading? Next year doesnt look to be much better, does it?
That's really the bottom line. I don't want the guy fired, but if he can't put an elite offense on the field to make up for a defense that is nothing to write home about what are we doing here? The schemes they are running right now are pedestrian. Any offensively minded coach at the P5 level could be doing this.

Yeah, he is one of the only ones to come to mind in the last 20-30 years.

Milton wasn’t the problem last night, the problem was we couldn’t stop a D2 running back and that the refs WILL NOT call holding on opposing teams while they pepper us with them all game long. Milton isn’t going to win us a Championship that’s pretty clear, but he didn’t cost us the game last night, the refs and our defense did
Calling Schrader a D2 back at this point is like calling Hooker a old transfer washup after the Bama game.

In full seasons, every one of Heupel's offenses has been better than every one of Malzahn's.

Gus isn’t even a brilliant offensive mind, and this comparison is just absolutely false. Try again.
I think you missed the point. The OP wasn't comparing offenses, he was comparing coaches. Gus was an offensive minded coach who won early and fell off a cliff later. Lets hope that doesn't happen with Heupel.

You realize that last year's offense was one of the most prolific offenses in NCAA history don't you? We have Nico and some stud receivers coming in. Sometimes it's important to engage your brain before posting.

An exciting offensive mind, but no consistency. Can fool us into thinking we're close to elite. Inexplicably bad performances from time to time.
Tennessee had a lot of problems to fix.

What's more, I feel sorry for you if you don't realize that and you need help.

He hasn't tried to fool us like you would want to think. You have been fooled by your thinking.

Do you chase shinny objects often?

Rome was not built in a day and given the mess he stepped into I give him credit for not having a losing season since his arrival.

Don't feed the troll?+?
