Josh Pastner hired at Memphis (merged)

You call yourself a major basketball program and you are happy with a assistant coach as a head coach. I am sure you know but major basketball programs do not get assistant coaches as head coaches. Good luck, I hope he loses every game and then they bring back Tic Price.

You might recall in 1988, a storied program lost one of the best coaches ever to the NBA. They hired an assistant as head coach---WTF, what a JOKE, right? Turns out the program was Kansas and the coach Roy Williams. Now you know the rest of the story. :) This dude is a coaching wunderkind. Its ballsy, but may be a genius move--could flop too, we'll see. At least UK and KU are bumming about perhaps losing X, Demarcus and others. UK thought they bought a whole program...

Yes but the thing is, they were looking at everyone else under the sun before even taking a second glance at Pastner. If they had this much confidence in him why did they (allegedly) entertain so many other names first?

I don’t know if Pastner will be successful or not but I don’t quit get your analogy. If I am not mistaken, Williams was a highly regarded assistant out of UNC when Kansas came calling and recruited him away to be their HC. I don't think that hire was considered a "JOKE". He had been involved with a NC and Michael Jordon. How many HC openings has Josh Pastner’s name been associated with?

Who's the good friend you lost?

Cal of course , I'm gona miss those sunday golf trips . Dont mention this to him though because he's really insecure about shooting in the low 80's.

Was watching true stories of the ER today and a guy came in with a driver going through his skull. Too bad you couldn't have done that to Cal... :muahaha:

This guys gonna be huge. People were begging for him to get hired at 'Zona (where he played) - not that people can complain getting Sean Miller.

Who were these beggers?

I do think Pastner was next on their list after Miller though.
