Other than recruiting what makes Pastner suitable for running the program. I posted about this a week ago and was wondering if he would be the hire.

Can't fault RC completely. They swung for fences going after Pitino, Pearl, Floyd. As a Tiger alum, I am glad they at least asked. In the past, they would have only assumed these coaches would say no and would have hired the likes of Leonard Hamilton.

It was going to be impossible to get any great coach to leave their current situation and follow a legend. Same thing went on at Arizona.

When it got down to the last few days and the names I heard (Drew, Hamilton, Theus, Barbee, DK), I really wanted them to take a shot at Josh. He is the only one in the bunch that can keep some of these current players and recruits on board. All the others are mediocre coaches at best. Give the kid a shot and let's see what he does. This hire actually kept me from cancelling my season tickets. Any of the others, and my cash would have gone elsewhere.
Yeah, DK would have had no appeal to a bunch of kids he recruited.

I heard he was gonna have Bobby Knight in a back room during the games next year on a audio linkup telling him what to do on the sidelines.

Question. Could you see an opposing fan posting this same sentence after we hired our football coach?

That's a valid point, but remember Kiffin had experience coaching an NFL franchise. What has Pastner done?

For the record I really do believe that Pastner will be a solid head coach some day, just not within the next couple of years.

Before Cal coached at Memphis, were they even that good? He kind of brought Memphis to the limelight in the way of basketball didn't he.

Total dysfunctional franchise no doubt in Oakland but if you take that year and half out it could be debated his football coaching career is not that different from this guys basketball coaching career

Kiffin was also involved in national championships. Something Pastner hasn't been apart of.

With that said, CLK was thought of as a hot coaching prospect being considered for numerous HC openings. I don’t think the same could be said for Josh Pastner.

You call yourself a major basketball program and you are happy with a assistant coach as a head coach. I am sure you know but major basketball programs do not get assistant coaches as head coaches. Good luck, I hope he loses every game and then they bring back Tic Price.

Have a buddy that played with Pastner at Zona. He had talked to Pastner early this morning and was told that there had yet to be any contact with Memphis since he left. He text him back between 1 and 2 to say that Memphis called and offered him on the phone.

From my buddy conversation, he also told me this....

Pastner has already "hired" Xavier Henry's father as Director of Basketball Ops. He has also "hired" a JUCO coach that has connections to the two JUCO signees. He expects to hire long time Olson assistant Jim Rosborough, who is currently an Asst. AD at ZONA. This will be the X's and O's guy per say.

My same buddy used to coach before a career change and knows Taggart from one of his coaching stops. After the hire, Taggart texted him that he would be staying given the hire.

I wonder if the JUCO Coach and Henry both had deals with Cal before, effectively taking the place of Team Reke on the staff per say.

Josh already working his magic..I had heard he hired Xavier's dad today, interesting. I think Taggart made the right move by staying put. I thought after the hire of Josh that Coleman and Dodson would stay at Memphis, a big + for Memphis.

Mickey D's raised their salary. :)

ahh the overwhelming optimism ive heard in memphis today, ... i guess only time will tell. Personally I dont know who this kid is and would not trust him with a program after one year after being an assistant. My question is, what about John Robick?
