‘23 JUCO OT Larry Johnson III ( Tennessee commit)

I’m so glad I’m not the only one. I don’t think he’s a bad guy but the role he plays on those podcasts are something that literally any of us could do. Reads off stats, makes odd evaluations, mispronounces names (current players and commits alike). It’s mind blowing. Locked on is just him reading a stat sheet most of the time
don't forget my favorite, talking right over anyone that's about to expound on a point made by anyone else ......he did it to Hubbs last week and AP had to back it up..."what were you about to say hubbs?"
he brings nothing to the table imo.

Southlake Carroll is a quality program. Trust the coaching and development he received up til the Longhorns getting aholt of him.

So on3 has him as number 9 juco player and a 4 star. Is that new or always the case?

I think it's new. So now he's good. He wasn't before. Because recruiting rankings are scientific evaluations of players made by expert evaluators, and certainly not reactive to the schools/coaches who recruit them. I'm sure if Larry Johnson, III had never been offered by Tennessee, but were the same player, he'd be ranked the same.

Curious to hear why you think he doesn't fit in with the culture and exactly what your view is of said culture. I'm pretty indifferent on Rucker, bu I'm having a hard time making sense of what you're saying.
I don’t hate him like many do. I just see all soft left-leaning non-sports related (and sports) stuff he posts and it turns people off. Plus he does seem to make most things about himself and is critical of people, subjects at inappropriate times. Example is on the day of Mike Leach’s death he posted that he didn’t think he would fit in at Tennessee.

So...politics. You're saying he doesn't fit the "culture" because you don't like his political views. That's weak, but whatever.

I agree. A lot of the players in the portal are there because of two reasons. They are not playing up to their recruited potential, or the have been recruited over. Either way, it is a gamble which we won with Hooker. In the next couple of years, our recruiting will greatly reduce the number of portal players who will attract our interest.
You forgot several other reasons like they’re a really good player on a lower level team and they want to move up to big time football like the TE from Shoorter that just went to FSU.

I think Rucker does a great job. It's embarrassing how many of our fans act towards him on Twitter. Many of them just look for reasons to be angry. And yes, the hateful, negative, vulgar, angry at the world element is a large part of our fanbase. But that doesn't need to be considered the "culture" of our fanbase.

Also, I'm okay with people expressing opinions I disagree with, as long as it's not done in a disrespectful manner.

Yes I tend to agree - I think he does a solid, level-headed job reporting. Also goes to bat for UT when he needs to (besides the whole Stetson Bennett/Hooker Heisman thing two weeks ago), when he breaks news or info, you can take it to the bank. Not sure how long you've been following him, but years ago he was pretty insufferable with his opinions and view of himself on Twitter and I think that's where all the hate from those people stem from. He's done a complete 180 and kept those things to himself these past few years, which I'm glad he's learned, because again, I think he does a good job, but think the old Wes is still engrained in a lot of people.

No, I’m just saying what I see all over Twitter. He doesn’t fit most people in Tennessee. Has nothing to do with me. I don’t care

I’ve never seen him break news and on his podcasts he pretty much hosts and gives opinions. Callahan, Brown and Ben are the ones with the reporting

He did go to bat for Hooker. Said it was ridiculous Bennett was in NY over him. And when he revealed that he had Hooker 2nd on his ballot to Williams, he got attacked. Which was ridiculous.

OV notes…

Larry Johnson III, Tennessee’s 6-foot-7, 335-pound offensive tackle commitment out of Hutchinson Community College, finished up his official visit this morning. Said he saw everything he needed to see from the Vols and more. Rave about Tennessee OL coach Glen Elarbee.

He said he’s comfortable playing on either side of the offensive line. Also said he’s coming back to Tennessee on Monday and he’ll be here for good after that.

Larry more or less bet on himself by going the JUCO route. His grades were never an issue but he felt he didn’t get the recruiting attention he wanted out of high school. Went to Hutch for a few months and now he’s headed to Tennessee.

More from him in a little bit.
