'21 JUCO RB Tiyon Evans

Plenty of teams utilize Freshman who end up doing very well.
I don't think that top tier programs are relying on freshman who aren't top 50 recruits. We arent getting one of those. We need to improve our win total to recruit better, so we need people who can help us win next year.

I mean we went from being a 3 win team to being a 7 win team by tomorrow and a possible 8 win team with a bowl win…. I’d say that’s pretty good.

I think that's good to but I don't think you become a 9 win team by relying on freshman RBs. Our lack of depth at the position was a glaring weakness this year.

Obviously you didn't see Jamal Lewis play as a freshman; or, you haven't watched Treveyon Henderson this year. I could go on and on and on and on with freshmen RBs who dominated for 8, 9, 10, 11 wins teams.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but with him entering now vs in a few weeks doesn't that mean that we will not be able to replace his spot with the portal?
Correct, as the rule is written. It is for players (up to 7) who enter the transfer portal AFTER academic semester has ended. The thing is, most schools end close to or at the early signing day period. It needs to be rewritten. I believe it was intentional to make schools take transfers instead of high school players. Over 1,000 kids who entered the portal never found a home. Portal has hurt HS kids (colleges saving spots for transfers) and college kids (schools don’t have room).

Evans doing it right now makes no sense. He will need to take finals anyway in order to be able to transfer.

Good news is that RB is the easiest position to learn (minus pass pro) on the field and can replace him pretty easy next year.

Lot of overreactions in this thread. Tennessee should have no problem attracting other elite RBs; besides, this offense works well even without Evans at this point. Definitely seems related to academics at this point. Best of luck to him moving forward.
It shouldn’t be hard, but ESD is in 3 weeks and elite RBs aren’t exactly kicking down our door. So saying it’s “no problem” is not accurate.

Our current Freshman RB is averaging more yards per carry than Alabamas best RB…..
It didn't feel like that at points of the season when we were banged up. Such as having to rely on Wright in the Pitt game. We have capable running backs, but you need to be deep at the position and have people you can trust throughout the season.

He wasn’t labeled “elite” last year when he kicked, de-kicked and then kicked again.

Well I’d rather they get experience in a rebuild year so they are good to go next year. So I’ll take it. We didn’t lose the Pitt game because of Wright. We lost because of overthrows, an interception, and a blown spot by the refs that turned the ball over.

Well they shouldn't even be going to the door yet. There will be a few and with our offense we'll get a good one.

The way a local radio guy explained it, if they're enrolled this semester and transfer, they will count toward that up to 7. But I've heard it explained your way too. So it seems no one is entirely certain. But if you think of it logically, if they are enrolled, then they can't officially transfer until they finish the semester because they have to keep their academics in order.

Seems like tiyon been a headcase since he got here. Staff had issues with him being a baby in spring and couldn’t get him on practice field as quick as they thought he could be back. Then he really has been off ever since Saban called him best player on our offense. Probably got too his head

Is 9 wins in year 2 the standard now?

Sheesh. Our roster is still a mess and will be for a few years through no fault of Heupel’s. 7 wins and I’m good.
