If all this rumoring is truth wouldn’t that be tampering knowing where he’s going even before entering the TP? I think it would have to be. I sincerely hope he stays but I will not lose one wink of sleep over it either. The RBarnes reference by a poster earlier is almost ignorant or meant to agitate cause it’s borderline absurd. SMH

While I'd like him to stay and hopefully improve, he wasn't exactly a game changer here and he collapsed in late January, February and March. At a time when players should be getting better with experience, he averaged around 5 points and less than 4 rebounds a game over the last 13 games of the season he played in. He looked great against Miss State on Jan 17th and it was all downhill from there.

We expected him to be a one and done due to his talent, at the beginning of the season. I didn't expect him to be around for the 2023-24 season. If he's one and done because he didn't develop, doesn't like the culture or whatever reason, it's the same end result for the roster. Just stinks we got nothing from him when games mattered the most.

All you people wanting Phillips to go and saying bye are unbelievable. Dude is our #1 want on next years team! Even before Santi. He has the potential to be a 1st round pick. Of course we want him back. It’s truly amazing reading what y’all think based off one rumor on Twitter.

Staying off Twitter if you don’t know how to use it would do a lot of you a lot of good. I have more followers on there than the account that started this nonsense. For the price of a Big Mac combo you can get a blue checkmark, change your handle to @InsiderBasketballSecretKnowledge and type whatever you want into the little box

The young man has a ton of potential and could be our go to guy next season, imo.

Last I heard they weren’t worried about a transfer, and with all this talk of Auburn there’s already a hella good case for tampering if that were to happen.

If I’m Barnes and he ever catches a whiff of tampering on any of our players, I’m throwing a fit like SLU and forcing them to stay.

What adversity is he facing? He didn't really look like a system fit for Tennessee this year.
Uhhh the system doesn’t cause him to fumble passes, bounce the ball off his knees or ankles or brick shots! If he leaves, so be it. While he is athletically talented, his basketball skills definitely need improvement!

Phillips has a lot of work to do. I'll say this, he doesn't even look like an SEC talent. Yeah, he was only a freshman, but man, he didn't show me anything really. Can't rebound, can't finish, can't shoot, just weak. If he's that soft, please do go to Auburn. I don't see him getting much better over there.

Yahore or however you spell his name, was also supposed to be a freak athlete, how did that turn out?

We can do much better

Why do you continue to behave like basketball is a foreign language you need to translate for everyone?
Haha. No one has accused me of that before. Figured anyone who was around during Pearl’s 6 years would be familiar with it given we saw it every game.

This link below is the best description of the flex. Spacing floor is critical and requires all 5 players to be able to pass, handle and shoot to be at its most effective. Offense tends to flow side to side, and they duplicate the same flex cuts on each side until someone either gets an open perimeter shot or they pass to a cutter in the lane for a layup or a shot in the lane. Really have to have multiple good perimeter shooters (ie: Chris Lofton, Jujuan Smith, and bigs like Wayne Chism from top of key) and swing to each side quickly to run well. Creates mismatches if you switch which allowed players like Dane Bradshaw (who could handle and pass) to play well in it because floor was so spread out.

If this happens the scouting report is out. Breathe on him and him falls down. I love Phillips and hoping he adds weight and sticks around because with 15 to 20 pounds he would be a beast.

If I just started watching UT with no knowledge of who was a 5 star and their projections. I would say this JP kid could be as good as Josh Richardson by his senior year if he puts on some muscle weight. He looks tentative to me and sometimes like he’s disinterested but if he starts hustling more etc.. but I digress he’s a 5 star & may end up in Europe or G league for a few years then an afterthought. Right now I just don’t see it.

Maybe this. If the rumor is true, my guess is that the kid just wants a better chance at winning a championship and he doesn’t see it with us.
Be careful pointing this out. There’s going to be posters pointing out that UT just went to the Sweet Sixteen and that Barnes is perfect and that anyone who doesn’t want to play for him is Judas and UT is better off without them no matter what and that the trajectory of this program is peerless.

Literally the best individual defender in the country last season and that is statistically a fact
