Julian Phillips Hypothetical

I think we were hoping he was the guy that would get us a round further in the tournament than we would otherwise advance. He wasn’t. Not this year.

I think there's a better chance he's in the NBA G-league or at another school than TN next year. Also, BJ Edwards transferring wouldn't surprise me.

Crazy talk about him leaving. He need to get in the gym and work his tail off in this off season. Come back next year with something to prove as you see signs of a very talented player, but he must work hard to reach his potential.

No idea what either will do, but one thing I do know....we can't go into next season hanging our hats on those two guys. Hope they both develop and contribute, but we need proven production thru the portal to compliment our recruiting class and what's left on this roster.

He doesn't have a handle and is too light to work close to the basket where he makes the majority of his points. He is used to driving close in then banking it from close range. Right now when he puts the ball on the floor it gets stolen. He can't play any power 5 with no handle. He needs to improve his dribble and gain 20 pounds.

If you’re Julian Phillips, would you consider a transfer? I don’t think he can make the nba jump yet. The team is fine, but his offensive game is not being developed and it will hurt his draft stock. It actually appears to have gotten worse. He only had 12 minutes today while key, the walking brick machine, who has no future with this team, had 25. Id be pissed.
No. I think I would learn how to dribble and hit 40% of my three point shots. Then I would not have to worry about going to any college. However, until He Lears those two skills, I would stay where I am.

If Phillips wasn’t hurt last night then I’d bet he will be in the portal in the coming weeks.

Phillips may be the first player Barnes has had at Tennessee that should be negatively used against him by other coaches in recruiting. The fact that Phillips has not been utilized at all is coaching malpractice.

Those were dunks. He hoisted that 3 tonight and I was yelling at my tv.
He absolutely needed to shoot it and he needed to hit it. There's no way out of the offensive problems without hitting outside shots, because defenses won't extend enough to cover unless we hit them.

Given that he started until he was injured I suspect he did not get to full game fitness coming off it. Hope he takes the next step over the summer, I don't see him getting drafted because NBA may draft on potential, but they don't want to waste a pick of the guy would be in development past the end of the rookie contract.

He put up 0 points and 1 rebound in 12 minutes of play.

With that sort of production, nobody should be surprised (or pissed) they didn't get more minutes.

Yes, I’m looking at a school w a high powered offense that I could thrive in if I’m him.

i honestly think he will enter the portal, and i don’t blame him actually. the staff should have found ways to post him up a lot more .

If he is PRODUCTIVE he’ll play! He has a lot of work to do offseason. Loses ball a lot trying to make a move.
Let's not forget the breakaway Dunk he had only to decide not to do it (I think against Vandy). He hadn't been right since.

Julian Phillips hasn't developed into a competent college player yet no doubt but I am not sure how much of that is Barnes' fault. He is completely lost out there and the game moves way too fast for him. Highly talented players find ways to score off of sheer talent alone but he misses wide open layups and shot all of the time so coaching can only take you so far. He was clearly rated a 5 star based off of potential and he has not reached that potential, fact is he may never
