Julian Phillips Hypothetical

He absolutely needed to shoot it and he needed to hit it. There's no way out of the offensive problems without hitting outside shots, because defenses won't extend enough to cover unless we hit them.

Given that he started until he was injured I suspect he did not get to full game fitness coming off it. Hope he takes the next step over the summer, I don't see him getting drafted because NBA may draft on potential, but they don't want to waste a pick of the guy would be in development past the end of the rookie contract.

He absolutely didn’t. He has done nothing to show he deserved to take that shot. A sweet 16 game wasn’t the time to hope for finding your shot.

Julian Phillips hasn't developed into a competent college player yet no doubt but I am not sure how much of that is Barnes' fault. He is completely lost out there and the game moves way too fast for him. Highly talented players find ways to score off of sheer talent alone but he misses wide open layups and shot all of the time so coaching can only take you so far. He was clearly rated a 5 star based off of potential and he has not reached that potential, fact is he may never
We scored 55 points against FAU. I’m not putting this on Phillips. This offense is abysmal.

I know things work on potential and Phillips would be hard to criticize for turning down money from the NBA. I do think a realistic option is staring him in the face by returning to UT as a sophomore and improving his offensive game while becoming more of a focal point of the offense next year. By all accounts, he's a good kid and a hard worker, so it's not at all unexpected for him to take a leap on this end while becoming physically stronger. He's young, too, a full year younger than Brandon Miller, in fact.

Anyone chiding him for not being a star as a freshman is a fool. If he returns, he'll be good for us.

If you’re Julian Phillips, would you consider a transfer? I don’t think he can make the nba jump yet. The team is fine, but his offensive game is not being developed and it will hurt his draft stock. It actually appears to have gotten worse. He only had 12 minutes today while key, the walking brick machine, who has no future with this team, had 25. Id be pissed.
Who is going to offer him an NIL deal like he has? I don’t see how he’s getting that kind of money as he’s not doing any promo work that I can see.

Why is he gone because he struggled this year he isn't the first or will he be the last to struggle during first year of college ball
Due to his lack of production and playing time last night. He went from full time starter to only playing 12 minutes last night....I feel he is gone

Sorry to trigger you. I honestly didn’t want to post it but it’s a legitimate question.

More importantly, I’m pissed key is on this team. Just like Powell. And Bailey. Wastes of space.

@Freak feel free to delete. Kind of mad at myself for posting a thread instead of just a comment in the game thread last night.

I for one hope Phillips doesn't read this thread. Kids got loads of potential, just maybe needs another year to develop.
If he’s not dedicated enough to practice shooting and all the other things he needs to develop to reach his recruiting ranking, he’s probably not concerned about what is said on here or anywhere else

If Phillips doesn’t go into the draft, he should transfer. This hyper focus on defense that yields marginal results each season is limiting offensive developments for players like Phillips. None of these guys are consistent game in, game out. When’s the last time you’ve seen the NBA play defense?

If only the people who shot well enough to "deserve to shoot" took shots, we'd score 0 points. It's not about earning the privilege of shooting the ball, it's about doing your job in the offense, and for both of his attempts he was doing exactly that. He doesn't take those shots and we end up with a lower quality shot deeper in the shot clock, like those hot potatoes Key kept passing to Véscovi at the end of the shot clock.

P.j.Tucker and Grant Williams are in the NBA because they play very good defense

I don’t think he should btw. Just a question. More than anything I think he needs to get stronger, more disciplined, and more aggressive driving to the basket.

Heck yeah I’d transfer. Guessing Awaka will consider it as well.
