It did. A whole nation in fact. No idea why people are fighting this.
It actually happened. Its American. It's a good thing. No idea why people want to divide the nation on celebrating the end of slavery. It's a good thing, quit complaining.
If you dont worse worse race relations dont fight them on something you admit is a good thing. Come together on it. They can only divide if you let them. And what I am seeing here is calls for a divide from those complaining about a possible divide.Obviously ending slavery was good, but the timing of this in our current cultural climate signals capitulation to or pandering to the woke mob. I'm with you that it should have been a holiday all along, but I have a feeling that doing it this way at this time will only be used by the progressives as a tool to remind us all of how horrible and oppressive the United States is. I think it will end up causing worse race relations than if it hadn't been done right now.
June + Nineteenth = Juneteenth.
Sorta like Christ's + Mass = Christmas
Is the latter a crackerism?

How long should we wait? When wouldnt be pandering? All federal holidays are some type of pandering. The complaint seems to be that it's not pandering to the collective you directly.
Act like adults. Shrug your shoulders if you want, but dont throw a hissy fit.
You are free to work as usual on a federal holiday. My guess is you'll take the day off and grill something though. It isn't pandering to a downtrodden minority, it is pandering to a group of cultural marxists. Many black people I know don't give a sh*t about this, but the woke social justice mob definitely does. And they won't be looking at this as an olive branch, they'll only see it the way marxists see everything: as a tool in their chest for what they perceive is a power struggle against what they perceive as the "ruling class".
And there is zero possible good out of this?It isn't pandering to a downtrodden minority, it is pandering to a group of cultural marxists. Trump was never held accountable by the Rs.But the double standard is not even close. The current group of Democrats, if you want to call them that is the most hypocritical group of people in the world .

Enough negative to deny the official celebrations of the end of slavery?
It would be hard for the marxist to coop a holiday if the nation accepted it and treated it like any of the others. It's only when we marginalize issues that they have an opprotunity to wiggle in. If this were another widely celebrated 4th or Memorial day, good luck to the marxists to change the messaging.
I haven't seen that explanation. Regardless, I was responding to a claim that Juneteenth was "ebonics," which @AirVol was using derisively, and I used Christmas to show him white folks have done the exact same thing with holiday names.I thought the Juneteenth name came about because there was originally some disagreement as to exactly which date the news reached Galveston. Given that it could have been anywhere between June 16th and 19th, the specific number was simply omitted in favor of "Juneteenth." That explanation may be aprocryphal.
And in your effort to segregate these marxists you are segregating a significant chunk of the population that sees the overall holiday as a positive. And to the bold, I don't want a divide in the country based on race or political affiliation. However, I think we really should be segregating ourselves from cultural marxists who (directly or indirectly) seek the destruction of our country.
That's what I have heard as well, the exact dates. But your breakdown also works for June-SixTEENTHI haven't seen that explanation.
