Just got back from UT-Bama. A few observations.

We haven't won a game in the SEC and it's almost November so I doubt it could we worse.

yeah we could have no wins... we could have lost to UAB...that could have been worse...

we just need a offense... our D isint that bad...and they probably would be better if they could have a damn rest...

This is pretty much a truism of the human condition. I could say the same thing about Portland. It's a great city, the wife and I thought about moving there, but we ran into some absolutely execrable aholes in a brewpub out there. Jackasses are universal.
But saying a jackass is a jackass up in here can get a suspension. :)

Out of curiosity, which one?

And Portland has a-holes like everywhere else... But fewer of them compared to larger cities.

He used to live in a really nice subdivision but it was getting turned into a glof course. Then he and his other buddies found some pirate loot. Long story. There were booty traps and stuff. Now he's worth millions and lives in the hills of TN. He was headed for Beverly but got lost.

Nice

UT hasn't experienced what say, Oregon, experienced in the 1960's and 70's. I meant an extended period. Things could also be worse this season.

Yes there definitely was a time when Oregon saw, in my opinion, much worse than this.
Thanks for the support and looks like the Ducks might be in for the NC. Good luck and...
GO VOLS!

1. I wore a Ducks hat and heard almost nothing but positive comments. I got a few negative ones, but the fans today seemed to be way better than they were when we actually played Tennessee. Kudos to UT fans.

2. I was impressed by Tennessee in the first half. Solid running game, solid defense. 'Bama didn't really look very explosive on offense, and Tennessee's defense was pretty firm. That drive to get the field goal with 50 seconds left in the half was very nice.

3. Tennessee just doesn't have the depth to compete in 2nd halves against solid teams. It's just a fact of life for you guys this year. That should improve over the next couple of years.

4. Tauren Poole can be a beast when he gets decent blocking. First RB to go over 100 against 'Bama in a while, no?

5. Matt Simms has no business playing major college football.

You guys will progressively get better. Will Tennessee be a great team next year? In all likelihood, no. However, I do forsee a slow upward climb back to being a middle of the pack SEC East team in 2011. Who knows after that? Depends on how DD ends up being as a coach, and also how well he recruits.

Stick through this tough time, guys. Just remember-it could be worse.

First of all, congrats. Looks like the Ducks are for real. I'd like to hear it from a fan of a school outside of the SEC. How do you think Oregon would fare in our league? How about Boise St. and TCU? I think the latter two would have one or two losses, depending on scheduling, of course. In the SEC you have to have GREAT players on both sides of the ball, and you have to have plenty of depth to make it through the season, plus some luck. Tough gig!

UT seems to have a starting lineup to compete, just not the depth. They've hung in for a half against some tough competition. If DD can recruit, and I think he can, you'll start to see some improvement in '11 and '12. Kiffin left him a mess! Do any of you Vol fans think that another coach could have done much better with what DD had to work with? Honest question, not a slam. Even the great Saban struggled early at Bama.

Yes. LSU gift wrapped the game for us and we still couldn't win. I do believe that another coaching staff could have won that game.

Hmm, well, it's tough (if not impossible) to accurrately judge what would happen in a hypothetical situation such as this, but I'll try.

Honestly, if Oregon or Boise played in the SEC East, I think they'd run away with it. I think that both teams are significantly better than anyone else in the East. In the west, however, I think it would be tough to get past LSU, Auburn, and Alabama. Would be have a shot at winning it? Absolutely. Would we go undefeated? Probably not. I do think that Oregon would fare better than Boise. More speed and depth.

In terms of TCU, I'm not sold on them yet. I don't know if they really have a great team. They don't look so great offensively, and they haven't been blowing out teams that they should. I think they would be a 2nd place team in the East, and a 3rd or 4th place team in the West. I think TCU will lose to Utah.

There isn't much reason to Rep a team that beat us earlier this year while attending a game to cheer for UT. Why not leave the Oregon hat at home? When I go see Titans games I leave the UT gear at the house and represent the colors of the team I'm there to cheer for.

He wasn't there to cheer for the Vols.

I cheered for the Vols, tyvm.

So, wait, you like the Vols now? I'm pretty sure that's what he was implying, because in his post he only mentioned two teams that he has listed as his favorite team. You do not like the Vols, you like the Ducks. So, in a roundabout way, I was trying to defend you wearing an Oregon hat.

I don't have to be a fan of a team to cheer for them. I cheered for Mizzou last night, and I'm not a fan of them.
