Just got back from UT-Bama. A few observations.

Maybe it's because my dad is an alum, my parents used to live there, and I plan on attending. :good!:

P.S.:

I thought the diamond steel plated unis were stupid.

Nailed it.....I knew that was it! It would have been better overall if you just said it!!! Things can get brutal here once the sharks smell blood.

Congratulations....you will enjoy the state (I know first hand)....and hopefully the university.

I'm orange blooded by birth so UT will always be my first love no matter what they do on the field, but long before the thought of moving out here ever crossed my mind I watched UO play whenever they had a game actually playing back east. I started following them some because for one, their freakish yellow and vomit green uniforms just caught my attention as a kid. Secondly they were pretty fun to watch when Joey Harrington started and Onterrio Smith transferred out there.( or here now) People have all kinds of weird reasons for liking a team and it's not always about the bandwagon coming through.

And the birthplace of Nike with Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman makin' waffle shoes and selling Onitsuka Tigers out of the back of Phil's van in the 60's. Good local lore.

I just read half of your post and here's an observation: nobody gives a rat's ass about your observations.

I do. I like reading about what outsiders think about UT football when they watch it..it's honest because there is no favoritism.

1. I wore a Ducks hat and heard almost nothing but positive comments. I got a few negative ones, but the fans today seemed to be way better than they were when we actually played Tennessee. Kudos to UT fans.

2. I was impressed by Tennessee in the first half. Solid running game, solid defense. 'Bama didn't really look very explosive on offense, and Tennessee's defense was pretty firm. That drive to get the field goal with 50 seconds left in the half was very nice.

3. Tennessee just doesn't have the depth to compete in 2nd halves against solid teams. It's just a fact of life for you guys this year. That should improve over the next couple of years.

4. Tauren Poole can be a beast when he gets decent blocking. First RB to go over 100 against 'Bama in a while, no?

5. Matt Simms has no business playing major college football.

You guys will progressively get better. Will Tennessee be a great team next year? In all likelihood, no. However, I do forsee a slow upward climb back to being a middle of the pack SEC East team in 2011. Who knows after that? Depends on how DD ends up being as a coach, and also how well he recruits.

Stick through this tough time, guys. Just remember-it could be worse.

Thanks for your insight and feedback. To me... it is always good to hear from opposing fans who have no real agenda when it comes to us. I have to admit that the Ducks have been the most impressive team I have watched play this year. Congratulations on such a successful season, and I hope I get to see a very good and different style of SEC school face you guys in the Title Game.

Hmm, well, it's tough (if not impossible) to accurrately judge what would happen in a hypothetical situation such as this, but I'll try.

Honestly, if Oregon or Boise played in the SEC East, I think they'd run away with it. I think that both teams are significantly better than anyone else in the East. In the west, however, I think it would be tough to get past LSU, Auburn, and Alabama. Would be have a shot at winning it? Absolutely. Would we go undefeated? Probably not. I do think that Oregon would fare better than Boise. More speed and depth.

In terms of TCU, I'm not sold on them yet. I don't know if they really have a great team. They don't look so great offensively, and they haven't been blowing out teams that they should. I think they would be a 2nd place team in the East, and a 3rd or 4th place team in the West. I think TCU will lose to Utah.

I thought maybe you were a transplant from Oregon. I have relatives there who are Duck Alum. You're forgetting one thing. If you play in the SEC you not only play teams from your division, but also the other side. So, if the Ducks were in our league, chances are they would have to play either Auburn or Bama, maybe both. Plus you'd have to run the gambit of UT, UGA, USC, FL, etc. I don't think Oregon, or any other school west of the Mississippi, could withstand an SEC schedule without loss. I think it's amazing that 4 NC's in a row have come from the SEC after having to survive the battering schedules that we play.
