That's another thing. My gut feeling is that Cal can actually run a clean program at UK, because of the fact that it is UK. Once you build that NBA pipeline, the program recruits itself. Now, can a player accept benefits and still screw the program? Absolutely, but it is possible for him to run a clean program at UK.

In a way I understand the hire. UK needed a home run after the Gillispie debacle, and they whiffed on Donovan, Izzo and Wright. Cal offered them a golden ticket, and they took it. It's just that when it comes down to it for me, I support the school and the state, ABOVE the basketball program. It is a matter of pride, not just athletic pride. Most do not understand what you are sacrificing by supporting on the latter of those two choices.

Oh, I understand the hire too. Barnhart was desperate. His job depended on it. Hell, he might not be there long enough to see the next coach anyway if this one didn't pan out.

And I agree wholeheartedly with the bolded part. Most fans want instant success and gratification and could care less what rules are broken and what will happen to the program in the long run. All they care about is what have you done for me lately and what instant gratification can you give me?

Only a troll would post that the Pearl era was mediocre, and only someone who is clueless would believe it. He finished above UK in the SEC for his first four years. UK was down, but part of that was Pearl's success. I think that was the first time in league history that any school finished ahead of UK in the SEC for even three straight years. If I'm wrong, then it was at least the first time it happened for four years.

And, it was just a stupid cookout. The internal chaos that followed was quite disappointing though. You're supposed to learn that lying makes it worse before you finish elementary school.

As an aside, Hardwood, I was in support of replacing Fulmer. I was guarded with the hire of Kiffin. I was not thrilled when he brought in Ogre. I knew he came with baggage and I told many people when they asked me what I thought of the Kiffin hire that I thought Ogre would get us in trouble with the NCAA if Kiffin stayed here long enough. Luckily, he didn't. I think Kiffin is a pretty good coach in his own right though and didn't need to act the way he did even if he says he did it to fire up the fanbase. A stadium that can pull in 100,000 doesn't need that much prodding. Win and they'll support your ass. I just never liked Ogre and everything I heard about him from people in the know was true. He was a slimeball.

The bbq was a secondary violation just like every other violation initially. The lying to the NCAA was the killer to him and his job. If he doesn't lie, he still has his job and a slap on the wrist.

Just as I said, he never was nailed for the cookout which was a secondary violation. It was the coverup of the bbq.

Let me refresh you on what a major violation is. It's when you have an asst coach mail large sums of cash in an envelope and the envelope just happens to pop open and the cash falls out. Remember that? That's what a major cheating violation is.

I tend to think you have hate for Pitino because he went to one of Ky's biggest rivals. I wish Tubby could have handled the enormity of the job and balanced it with success. As a person and a representative of the University, one couldn't wish for a better candidate. The success we enjoy now is wonderful for most, but for me it feels like I'm waiting for the rug to be jerked out from underneath me.
