Miller was slated to start the year in the starting five, and did, but Gilchrist was playing absolutely too well in practice and in games not to give a chance. Miller slumped two games while while Gilchrist excelled. In the press conference after the game, Cal was quoted saying "Michael likely played himself into a starting position tonight." After this, Gilchrist went to Cal and told him he didn't want to start, or have to start, and to leave Miller in the lineup if it helped chemistry. But Miller is gamer as well, and told Cal that he wanted to come off the bench where he felt just as comfortable. So now you have the current starting line-up, with both players playing 30 minutes a game anyway.
That's some maturity right there. On both parts. Mkg, Is quickly becoming one of my favorites

Thank you, I knew it involved those 2 just couldn't remember the details. Mkg is in my opinion the best pro prospect on the team not named Davis. He is a stud and I'm very surprised at his attitude and effort, not a typical cal guy.
Problem is though.. they are good. And now that they are on a roll.. they will continue to be.. just like Bama football.. sickening.
Yes, sickening to think a program that has 7 championships is still relevant in CBB. How sad...
Admit it, ya'll would love Cal if he did this at UT. Anyone would really. Cheater or not.
Y'all loved BP and he was a cheater who only had mediocre results. A cheater who was winning and slaying it on the recruiting trail would put you
All in a pleasure coma.
Seriously, not everybody wants that guy to be their coach. He is a dirtbag. Look at how he danced away from Memphis for a better job just as the curtain was coming down. He didn't just change overnight. The guy epitomizes the used car salesmen reputation that college coaches have.
I'm sure Smails and others will come in here screaming brown noser and the like, but my honest opinion of Cal isn't what most would think.
Let me state that I love what Cal has done with the program, I love the prominence and return to the top that the program has enjoyed. However, I'm afraid that one day it will come with a price. I'm not here to debate Cals past, but rather the present and the future. Cal says all the right things about the program, about it being the best, unparallelled, but the UK program isn't any more special to his heart than Memphis or Umass, it's just a higher ranking piece on the Chess board. Cal would have left Memphis for Kansas, Duke, UNC, and had the same song and dance.
Everyone has their own opinions and preferences, some would rather have instant gratification, which Cal has delivered, some would rather see a long term coach build something special, and sustainable. In a perfect world, I would love a coach like Izzo or Jay Wright, who have turned down multiple offers to build something special. My soul isn't for sale if you get my drift, and I have the same feelings about the UK program. I don't like risking its name and its tradition for 5 or 6 years of temporary bliss.
If I had one wish to make for this program, it would be that Rick never left for the NBA, which he has admitted as well. So in the end, I honestly understand where people come from when they say they wouldn't want Cal. For me, it's between a rock and a hard place.
Yeah, he only won more SEC games than any other program in his 6 year tenure, won the East 3 times and the SEC outright and had 3 Sweet 16's and an Elite 8. If that's mediocre, give me more of that.
And cheater? Good Lord. Yeah, those damn bbq's are really the deal closer to recruits I bet.
You're clueless.

I love it! Anyone who doesnt agree is stupid or clueless. :lolabove: And that goes for everyone!! You have to be a female to be this angry all the time. Are you pregnant by chance?
Yes, Bruce was a cheater. His players werent found guilty (well, they were when they were arrested) but Pearl was. Not only was he guilty, but he lied repetitively when asked questions and shown pics of his bbq.
This is great! You bash Cal for something that the your savior is guilty to the teeth for and you're defending it. This is the reason I love coming here, the entertainment value is top notch!
Exactly. I said the same thing myself just a few days ago and the Ky homers would have none of it. Where is there to go for Cal? LOL. His ego will tell him where to go and they don't want to hear that.
There are very few coaches in the game that give two sh*ts about the program they are coaching at. You can believe the sh*t they're shoveling, but in the end all they care about is themselves. If you think they do then you are a blind homer and are fooling yourself.
I thought Pearl cared for UT for the most part. I think he was loyal because he knew UT had given him a chance when he had been blackballed because of the Illinois deal. He and Cal have enormous egos though and I knew if the situation was right, he would be gone. I figured we would have him for 8-10 years tops anyway.
Myself, I lost a lot of respect for Pearl after the lying to the NCAA deal. It showed to me and a lot of other people that ultimately, he cared mainly about himself. Just like most egotistical, narcissistic people do. Also, when you damage the university's reputation and it's athletic program that I support financially and with a lot of time then it pisses me off and lets me know that you were mainly in it for yourself and didn't care what damage you caused it.
Cal comes with baggage and everyone knows it. Barnhart knew it and the Ky brass knew it but they jumped both feet in hoping that he would run a clean program. Time will tell if their gamble pays off.
