Its interesting how we struggle to think of antagonistic figures in any other terms than individuals or very unspecified concepts like 'greed' or 'liberals', or whatever.

Trust me. Go work at a Japanese car factory. See how messed up it is. I had 2 weeks of vacation and yet the wrote me up for taking an unpaid day off in the hospital

You already had 2 weeks vacation after being there just 6 months ? What about the bereavement for your dad ? Didnt you take that off ? All i can say is corporations can control employees because of Obozos crappy economy -- the 'just be happy you have a job' corporate blabber they scare employees with

Um, you're describing the south over the past 50 years. That's why unions are not popular in the south, the workers are so thankful to the gracious corporations for giving them work and they trust them to look after them.

It's not a new phenomenon.

I agree with you to a point..sometimes these things are nothing more than personality conflicts between a lower management type, who may or not be a egomaniacal jackarse, and an employee who may or not be a lazy and inefficient moron....But sometimes it is unwritten corporate policy to threaten, coerce and bully people who live in an area where jobs are hard to come by... These are not "unspecified" issues. Corporate greed and individual worthlessness are both real.

My Xterra had been a great car. I'd recommend Nissan based on my experience

Why do people that remember December 7, 1941 drive Japanese cars ?????

Yep! And also German cars. Also no British stuff, still upset about the revolutionary war. Don't get me started on Korean cars!

No American cars from the north or the south, they both killed a lot of Americans.

Real patriots drive volvos.

Free associate alert:

My first wife's grandfather fought in WWII and refused to fill up at a BP station because he hated the British officers he had to deal with.

My boss tried to write me up about 3 weeks ago because I was late on some reports, so I deserved it....but I knew her son and his gf were about 4-6 weeks behind on some reports and asked how many times they had been written up.... She just shut up and told me to get my stuff in. I just laughed and turned in my resignation. I didn't need the job but I enjoyed what I was doing. Never have your children work for you unless you're going to hold them to the same standard as everyone else

I completely understand the need to document things, but I swear, I'd come up with some sort of term more sophisticated than "Wrote up" to describe it.

This story doesn't seem to add up to me. At all. I've fired many more people in my life than I would care to mention, but I've never fired anyone for "not liking them".

Depends on where you work. I'm a salaried employee working at a union manufacturing plant. They "write up" hourly employees almost every day for clocking in late, not showing up for work and a multitude of other work related problems. It's a term more than an official statement.

In a union environment the company has to document disciplinary events no matter how minor. In my plant each event is granted a point or fraction thereof. It takes a certain number of points to get fired. FLMA, deaths and a multitude of other personal and family problems are automatically excused.
