Just So Everyone Knows, Gruden is a .500 head coach.

Im not anti-Gruden. I just want everyone to come down to earth. The guy is NOT a sure-thing. If he's hired, I'll back him like I did with every other UT coach during my lifetime.

But he is, at best, a 50-50 proposition.

Could be great, could suck donkey nuts.

One funny thing, though, is that most of the GRUDEN IZ DA BESTEST COACH EVUH!!! folks are the same ones who called for Dooley's head after the Music City bowl.

They'll also be the first ones to turn on Gruden, while folks like me will be backing him, hoping he succeeds.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

When comparing HC records, would it be going out on a limb to say that CBS at OK is comparable to CPF at UT? Stoops has a higher winning percentage over almost as many games (about 40 less than CPF). Would he be such a bad guy to get for maybe less money? He is also a GOOD Defensive guy in the SEC.

You wouldn't get Stoops any cheaper than Gruden. He's not leaving there for UT for anything less than $6 mil. He is making just under $5 mil now with a better situation.

To quote David Byrne, "Stop Making Sense"!

Big difference in temp coaches and one who was there 11 years. If you just took a look at Gruden's first two seasons, he was .500 with no post-season appearances.

He took over a 4-12 team with an overbearing owner you simp. Try making your arguments based on something other than googling wikipedia pages.

All this talk about how great he is...well, his record isn't much better than Derek Dooley's.

Just FYI

His pro record was .540.

He could be a potential disaster that we would be stuck with for years and years.
How many of those wins came against Georgia State, or Montana, or Akron, or Troy State? There are no built in gimmes in the NFL.

Oh yes, his first two seasons at Oakland he was 8-8 each year right after they went 4-12 the previous year. And hadn't had a winning record in 4 years prior to that. Then after those two 8-8 years he won 12 and then 10 in Oakland.

And when they fired him in Tampa Bay it came off of two consecutive 9-7 records. The year after Gruden was out - record was 3-13.

Solid post.
