Just So Everyone Knows, Gruden is a .500 head coach.

All this talk about how great he is...well, his record isn't much better than Derek Dooley's.

Just FYI

His pro record was .540.

He could be a potential disaster that we would be stuck with for years and years.
This is what concerns me. The only reason he is a fan favorite right now is because he allegedly owns property in East Tennessee.

If we are gonna be throwing around $50 million+, I go after Saban or Meyer.

To be fair, Other than Carroll those were all proven college coaches coming back to college. Thats more a list for people proving college coaches don't work in the pros.

I understand the point you're making, but can you give me a list (and this is not a dig, I'm just not sure of the stats) of +.500 winning percentage NFL coaches that have gone to NCAA programs and floundered?

I've given FACTS that none of you Grubage worshipers will listen to.

I've proven time and again that Jon Gruden owes that Super Bowl ring that you all drool over so much, and most of his wins from 2002-2008 to Monte Kiffin and his perennial top ten defense.

I've proven that Gruden's offense is pathetic, you can bring up Brad Johnson all you want, but one season of playing out of his MIND football proves nothing.

I've even proven that the actions of the Glazer family didn't remotely affect Kiffin as much as they did Grubage. How was Monte able to keep a top ten defense on the field while Gruden wasn't able to get past the halfway mark.....they were under the same constraints??

I'm still waiting for the press conference which I pray to every deity that's ever been considered holy never comes, that way I can start the FIRE GRUDEN thread. I will NOT give him a chance, he will not get the benefit of the doubt, the same way some of VolNation did Derek Dooley. I only hope that y'all get over the glow of that (IMHO, undeserved) SB ring, look through my posts, and change your mind about this clown shoe before it's too late.

Some of this data has been presented by previous posters but let's compare Gruden's record with those of Hall of Fame-caliber NFL coaches. I have not recalculated winning pct. based on the inclusion of post-season play, so all records reflect regular season games only:

Jon Gruden: 95-81-0 (.540)

Bill Belichick: 175-97-0 (.643)
Jimmy Johnson: 80-64-0 (.556).
Tom Landry: 250-162-6 (.607)
Vince Lombardi: 96-34-6 (.738)
Chuck Noll: 193-148-1 (.566)
Don Shula: 328-156-6 (.678)
Bill Walsh: 92-59-1 (.609)

Note: Only Gruden and Belichick coached exclusively within the parameters imposed by the NFL salary cap.

You've proven nothing.

I find it interesting that posting here is a hobby you clearly enjoy or you wouldn't do it and you're doing your best alienate yourself. Your comments come off as angry shouting.

By the way... Jim Mora had a losing record. He's sure been bad at UCLA, huh?

Don't say it, lemme guess. You didn't search my posts at all and made a knee-jerk reaction, didn't ya??

And how am I "alienating" myself?? Because I flatly refuse to join the blinded sheeple that are slobbering all over Gruden's shoes because ERMAGHERD, HE'S GERT ER SERPER BERHL RIIIIIIIIING, ERMA FERKIN GERD!!!!!

I did give Dooley the benefit of the doubt...he came into a BAD situation, gave us some great recruiting classes, and handled himself with class. But 0-15 against top 25 programs, 1-14 against the SEC the past 2 years, 4-19 against SEC teams during his tenure; how much benefit do I have to give him before I start to doubt? Hell, he lost to a Kentucky team starting a WR at QB and I STILL gave him leeway coming into this season. Your stance that you will not give Gruden leeway, or even a chance, sounds more like a hurt Bucs fan than a hopeful Vols fan.

I've seen all of your Gruden comments and it's the same thing. It's not that you're against Gruden, it's how you say it. It sounds like you have no self-control and are having a meltdown. Not to mention, your posts are insulting and you're constantly SCREAMING!!!!!!!!!!!

People don't agree with you and you yell at them.

Without Gruden Tampa never wins the Super Bowl. There's no way that team goes into Philly and wins with Dungy as Head Coach. Watch the "America's Game" epsiode about the 2002 Bucs and you can see the impact he had on them. Btw, any coach who can take a team to the playoffs with Chris Simms as his QB has my vote.

But you're not going to get Saban or Meyer, even for that amount.

This is what concerns me. Too many UT fans are too dense to recognize the golden goose when it's staring you in the face. Just about any college football program in the country would be doing backflips if they could hire Jon Gruden. Don't overthink this. The man has won at the highest level. He is considered a major success in the world of coaching. His work ethic is legendary. His knowledge of the game is huhgly respected. Every kid out there knows who he is. He is near the top of just about any list of prospects for the very biggest coaching jobs. Our rivals would hire him in a heartbeat.

I once thought you could get no dumber. Thanks for proving me wrong.

I'd like to see Dooley's record in the NFL but he will never get a shot. He might not ever get an FBS HC job again.

He would be the GREATEST hire in the history of the SEC....Period

This was just talked about on the radio yesterday and his winning % is the same or better as hall of fame NFL coaches. And the "He took Dungy's players" nonsense, he built the Raiders into a great team, left for Tampa, then won a Superbowl when Dungy couldn't. Besides, if the argument is- well, he just had an above 500 record in the NFL and won a Superbowl- that sounds like a reason TO hire him and definitely not a reason we shouldn't.

Coaching at Oakland is the NFL's vandy! Going .500 at Oakland is an accomplishment.

The dumbest thread I've ever seen!!! Yes, just above 500 in the freakin pros! Because it's the PROS! Most coaches in the pros with say a .600 or above winning percentage have/had a top tier QB. Gruden NEVER had that!

You are a fool if you believe that an NFL coaching record is indicative of potential success or failure at the collegiate level. If that's your line of thinking, much like the OP in this thread, no one is going to convince you otherwise, nor will you convince anyone else that can clearly see there is a different set of rules separating the pros and college football.

Find another team.

Coming from someone who wanted UT to lose so he could be 'right' about Dooley, I'll put your opinion in the circular file with WacoKid's and the other trolls.

This is the norm for him. The kid is a mouth breather for sure. Too bad his hero is now fired.

More asshattery from the guy who thought he'd be playing for the National Title.

lmmfao....UR-USUC

You'll always suck.

p.s. Spurrier's gone. You'll get the announcement soon enough. :)

.500 in NFL is not bad, all im saying it is a gamble the man has verry little college coaching never a HC in college, i think we get the best collge coach out there, dont care if hes a rock star i want a great HC.
