Right now, we sit with the #9 class on Rivals, with 2223 points.
However, let's look at some possibilities with 4 spots left... (keep in mind, other schools will add to their classes, most likely. Georgia only has 19 as of right now. We have 23 commits, but two haven't signed, so we have 4 spots left, I believe).

If we add Darnell Washington and no one else, our class will jump to 2,436 points, which would be good for 7th, and we would jump Florida, making us 5th in the SEC.

If we add Darnell Washington AND Jay Hardy, our class will jump to 2,594 points, which would be good for 5th place, and we would jump Georgia, making us 3rd in the SEC.

If we were to somehow add Darnell Washington, Jay Hardy, Demon Clowney (though I don't think we are going for him honestly)....our class would jump to 2,751 points, still 5th place, and still 3rd in the SEC.

If we were to somehow add Darnell Washington, Jay Hardy, Demon Clowney, Dee Beckwith, our class would jump to 2,841 points, which would be good for #4 class nationally, and 2nd in the SEC.

Also in the realm of possibility (though not really): Sign Washington, Hardy, Chris Morris (who didn't sign yesterday) AND Antonio Johnson (who also didn't sign yesterday and was once committed to us). That would be good for 2,952 points, and good for second in the nation.

Ger-Cari Caldwell would not factor in, since he is a two star, nor would Miller or Williamson if they end up signing. Only the top 20 prospects get included in class's ranking.

Again, I don't think that this all will happen. But it does go to show what we could have, and how close this class is to being in the top 5 as of now. Great job by Pruitt this time around. Hope you enjoy, just got bored today.

Thanks for the work however there is just one little glitch in your model. Rivals class score (points) is based on ONLY the Top 20 recruits in the class. If you add additional recruits to the existing class and those recruits have a higher point value than a recruit in the prior total then the addition replaces that lowest point value recruit in the Top 20 for the purpose of calculating class points.

Until the recruiting cycle is ended it may be better to compare the existing or projected class scores to where the class might have ranked in prior years. For example, if we had no changes to this class and it finished with the 2,223 points we have right now, then in 2017 it would have ranked #11, in 2018 it would have ranked #15, and in 2019 it would have ranked #15. If we land the 4 prospects you suggest our class points for the new Top 20 would be 2,511 which would have ranked #9 in 2017, #8 in 2018, and #10 in 2019.

I think the point is that after Georgia State, BYU, and Florida, if someone would have suggested we would almost be guaranteed a top 15 recruiting class this year with an outside shot at a top 10 class Freak may have banned that poster from this forum. I personally was hoping for top 100, maybe in my dreams top 50. Instead, Pruitt and his staff, along with supporters like AtlantaVol and others went into kicking ass and taking names mode. Any cat who complains about the class our team has put together this year under our circumstances has to in my opinion have their head up their ass. jmo.

Thank you for that. Excellent explanation. Wasn't familiar with the Rivals scoring method. 247 gives points to every player, but far fewer to the last few guys, so it has basically the same outcome.

I've also read Bill C. say he found an even better correlator to success than using class rankings - it was using the top 10 players for each team's class. Football is nowhere as much of a "strong link" sport as basketball, where 1 guy can mean everything, but it still is very reliant on the few at the top. Your top 40% of recruits tells you a lot about future success.

A bit off topic, but I've always thought the Rivals ratings were pretty weird, scale-wise. Isn't a 5.7 a 3*, 5.8-6 are 4*s and 6.1 is a 5* or something? They are so close together, on such a random scale.

I could see 1-10 or 1-100, but 5.2 to 6.1?? How high were they when they came up with that?

Honestly, do you really think there is a difference between 9th and 7th ?
No speaking in general terms. Look at what Clemson has done with zero classes rated better than 7th under Dabo. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with him having a number 1 class. Of course if you go from 9 to 7 because you picked up a guy that is an All American player for you then yes it matters but not because of the class rankings. Player development is every bit as important as recruiting rankings.

Crazy though how much lower rated our class is on 247 and espn. Especially in espn. I’m starting to believe this whole they hate us thing.

I think they should base it on a scale of 100.
and possibly exclude the stars rating.

Aaaand that's why everyone just ends up talking composite at the end of the day.

Yeah huge difference...
Rivals has hb as 39th nationally, #2 Ps qb.

HB has one of the best Qb years ever in the state of GA in the 7A classification and a state championship in one of the 4 best states for high school football. Yet they have him as the 17 rated Pro Qb, 26th in the State and 249th in the nation. What a f###king joke. I will never look at their recruiting again and in my opinion ESPN should not be included in the 247 composite rankings.

In my view, the class that is overrated is UGA. If you look at them objectively, they have no great options at QB moving forward unless Beck is somehow ready to step in and play early (indications are that he is not).
Listened to Rusty Mansell on the radio Wednesday, he was gushing about UGA's class and really trying to sell Beck. Defending his terrible Senior season etc. I've watched some of UGA's in state recruits and wasn't all that impressed...

Why be enthralled by the analysts' stars or rankings? Our signees are who they are and any bump in their rankings makes no difference, except what - bragging rights? I am more concerned about our coaches' evaluations and filling of needs.

Which ones? UGA didn’t really go instate much this year. Broderick Jones and Tate are the big 2 they got and Burton is technically from Georgia. I think those 3 are elite, but the WR and Stackhouse seem like projects. I remember when many UGA fans though Stackhouse was getting processed.

You're right. While I added Washington and whoever else, I forgot to take off some of the 5.7 3 stars that would be bumped in the 20. My bad. Good catch!

Thanks for sticking up for me. However, you're both right. I ACKNOWLEDGED it, but forgot to subtract the players that fell outside of our Top 20 AFTER I inserted the other players. So the numbers weren't exactly correct. Pretty much for every player I added in, about 30 points needed to be subtracted or so. So, Chatt is correct. I knew the rule, but didn't apply it in my calculations. Much like every math class I've ever taken.
