I'm just curious if the resident lawyer has a constitutional reason against filling the seat that doesn't include "politicians politic and the Republicans are big meanies!".

The hilarity of the situation just makes me laugh. Prior to 2013/2016 a nomination would be made, a filibuster would be enacted as long as feasible and the nominee would die in committee due to the 60 vote bar. But now it’s “well we only meant it for all the other federal judges not THESE federal judges” LMFAO!

See? Why would any Senator feel that representing this lot requires consistency? The go-to defense of everything is “the Democrats would do it, too” and the justification for everything is “the evil Democrats will gain power if we don’t!” If their constituents can be conned into believing both of these things simultaneously, why would any Republican senator worry over staying true to the statements they made four years ago?

When partisanship became the entire platform, there was no room left for consistency.

I asked, and I guess you missed the post. Why? Why wait, and why should her last wishes dictate policy?

Because being only 6 weeks out in today's political environment makes it a prudent decision,
and so many repubs seem to support the concept of not naming a replacement in an election year (not just a year - six weeks).
