When I rank presidents, I seem to put a much higher premium on character than most.....still do.From a personal character assessment, Carter is a good and decent man. Bush 1 was as well. Obama and Bush 2 seemed to have matured out of their 20s to become people of good character.
None of them were excellent presidents.
Remember that time the Dems freaked out and condemned the Rs for impeaching Clinton? And I said I would be FINE with a nomination now if the 2016 sh*tshow didn't happen. That changed the de facto rules. You can't say "we believe the people get the choice through the election" in 2016, deny garland a hearing, and then switch to the opposite position in 2020. The Dems are not the ones being inconsistent here.
Character was important to me at one time. Noble character with corrupt results does nothing for us.When I rank presidents, I seem to put a much higher premium on character than most.....still do.
Policies come and go and are often completely out of the president's hands, character is the one thing over which they have complete control. That's a lesson I always taught my children, my students, my players, and one I would prefer not have completely undermined by the president to the mindless cheers of his worshipers.

My post about Carter deserving to be on Mt. Rushmore was a joke, Luther. He should be on Mt. Vesuvius because he blows, just like Vesuvius did.The thing is, he would never think that nor would he have any desire to be; in fact, he would plead not to be.
Now compare that to the dotard.
Talk about opposite ends of the continuum.
They have lost what little minds they had left

I wish there were statesmen in politics who were also amazing leaders.
There are no formal rules as to when a scotus appointment should be taken up by the senate beyond that found in the constitution. The constitution does not hamstring a president during his final year in office from making an appointment or the senate from from providing it's advice and consent. That was the position advocated by the Dems (correctly) in 2016. That Republicans sh*t all over that and announced a new rule out of whole cloth that there would be no consideration of a scotus appointment during the final year of a presidency. They claimed this would be a rule of universal application. Now it's clear it's not. You don't get to announce a new rule and then claim the Dems are being inconsistent because they're advocating that you abide by the very rule you announced. The rules were written way before 2016 and are clear. The rules are also very clear on what it takes to change them. You simply want to stomp your feet and pretend the rules don't apply and that Dems aren't complete hypocrites. Both parties are!
So you consider character a primary issue when picking a candidate? So that means that you never voted for Bill Clinton right? Certainly since his republican opponents were men of unimpeachable character. Or let me guess, in those two elections there were more pressing issues than the character of the candidates.I have written letters, made calls, sent e-mails.
More than that however, is the fact that I consider character a primary issue when picking a candidate.
I'm on record claiming that Jimmy Carter is the president I most admire and that I consider him one of the best presidents of my lifetime......knowing full well the kind of idiotic and shallow responses that will elicit from the peanut gallery.
How about Luther's support for Stacey Abrams and her $54,000 in back taxes that she owed to the IRS, plus the other $116,000 in credit card and student loan debt? Sounds like good character. So you consider character a primary issue when picking a candidate? So that means that you never voted for Bill Clinton right?
