Justin Fuente out at VT

I have to disagree. It used to be a better job but much like UT the priorities of the administration has changed. Beamer used to be able to get away with murder and get kids into school that couldn't get in anywhere else (the Vicks), friends back home say that's all changed.
But UK is a historically weak football school in SEC, will always be second fiddle to basketball, and is harder to recruit than VT. Kentucky is never going to win anything of note in football.

The right coach at VT would be able to put together some good recruiting classes and compete for ACC titles pretty quickly.

Exactly. Better local recruiting, it’s a football first school, and Stoops has essentially hit the ceiling at Kentucky. But I still don’t think he leaves.

Just going off what I've been told it's gotten a lot harder to recruit to VA Tech than during Beamers time.

He shouldn't leave, because the dude has it made. It's hard to win there, but he's proven he can do it at a level they are satisfied with, and he's in the top 20 nationally as far as coach's salary.

It's a 5-6 hour drive from Blacksburg to get to the hotbeds of VA HS talent.

Maybe that is true, but it is a hell of a lot better football recruiting landscape than Kentucky. UK is a basketball-first school with no in-state talent and basically no football history.

Why would they drive? Just like everywhere else in recruiting, there’s other means of transportation. And you’re over by an hour or so anyway.

I think it's close as far as what they would pay. UK has never been football dominant, but they probably are still a top 20 revenue school.
You think VT would only pay $4.25m/year for a coach (I think that's what Fuente was making)? If a dude came in there and start winning/almost winning the ACC that's easily a top 20 salary job as well, and you could win at a higher level at VT than UK.

VT is a better job, and it isn't even close. Particularly if this season is something more than just a one year slip-up/rebuilding year for Clemson (and Tech is in the other division anyway).
VT hasn't been a good job in sometime, it's a regional program even at it's height of its success.

Tech had a great run from 1993 until about 2005 and almost won a national title in 1999. The right coach there would be able to recruit and potentially win conference titles.

Tennessee hasn't been great in some time either - it doesn't mean that it isn't a good job.

Time has left Tech behind, Tennessee obviously hasn't been a good job in sometime if it were we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now.

Could be. I think it'll have to be somebody willing to work $4 million, which probably fits Freeze. I don't get the impression that they have the money to do the sort of thing SEC schools do. I could be wrong. I also don't get the impression that Freeze would consider that a big stage.
Freeze is getting 3 million at Liberty. It’ll take more than 4 for VT to pull him

Not surprising he had enough time there to get things going and he never did. If I’m Va. Tech my first call is Hugh Freeze if that doesn’t work out then Shane Beamer.
The only reason for Beamer to take it is if he really wants to go home. Otherwise USCjr is a better job
