Justin Fuente out at VT

You say that but Kentucky like at best he can be like 6th in SEC. In a given year he could win the ACC at VT. He will never win a conference championship at Kentucky.

You're right. But honestly I think Stoops is fools gold, both he and KY probably should continue that marriage. It's probably the best Stoops and KY can do.
I understand he's done a good job in Lexington, but my goodness it's taken him 8/9 years. Every dog has his day I suppose.

I don't think Patterson makes sense. And remember, Fuente is a Patterson discijple; he's running his program very similarly to Patterson.

Fuente really struggled with recruiting for a few seasons, which is part of his problem. Ironically, he gets fired just as he was reeling in his best class. They were ranked #20 for 2022, which should put them near the top of the ACC.

I'm still not sure what to think of Fuente. Arguably the coach of the year nationally while at Memphis. But his Memphis teams probably beat his later VT teams. Losing Bud Foster hurt, but he never looked like the same coach at VT as he did at Memphis.
I think he was fairly overrated from the get go. He did have 2 good years at Memphis, who had been horrendous for years before he got there. However he really started to shoot up people's hot boards on the basis of that win over Ole Miss in 2015. Ole Miss was ranked and had beaten Bama the second time earlier that season, and people drew too big of a conclusion about him on the basis of a single game.

I'm not even sure the Bud Foster retirement had anything to do with it - Foster was with him until 2019, and it was straight downhill after his first season.

All I'm saying is that Kentucky is a $150M athletic department while VT is a $100M athletic department. The SEC annual payout is $60M+ per school. The ACC is about half that. Being middle of the road in the SEC has it's privileges.
Yes it does, but VT could conceivably win the ACC and be in the CFP someday if they hired the right coach. Before anyone laughs, ask yourself if you would have believed someone saying that about Clemson in 2010.

Kentucky is never sniffing the CFP or an SEC title. A major SEC East power (us) has been complete garbage for over 10+ years now and while they have had some good seasons under Stoops they still haven't approached division-title level. Hell, they've only managed to go 3-10 against us since Fulmer left.

The ACC's pie is smaller but VT could get a big share of it, especially if Clemson's struggles this year are something more than a one-year wobble.

It’s Kentucky would it really shock anybody if they thought they could?
Anyone that’s read my posts in this thread would know I’m just being a smarta**, but I still stand by a coach and his ego and desire to win it all, would be best served at VT over Kentucky.

Tennessee just needs VT to get back on track to swing things away from Clemson more than it is

the fact that you think Chadwell and Fuente are the same coach is frightening.
Yeah its not even close...Chadwell is going to be an amazing coach at an upper level school one day...He's worked miracles at CCU...I was actually hoping we were going after him before we got CJH...He runs a fun offense.

My son is a senior at VT. He graduates and commissions in the Navy a month from tomorrow. We've been to several games at Lane Stadium during the past 4 and a half years. While they have not been that great on the field, there's nothing like jumping to Enter Sandman.

The issue at Tech is Fuente never got to hire his own staff, technically he was forced to take Foster. Bud had a lot of issues well known in the community

Not sold on Chadwell without McCall. They have lost two games this year.

Depends on what you are after. Some would say it is.
Right. Only a couple threats to actually beat you if you're good. Almost an auto bid to playoffs. Like what Clemson was doing.

You’re right. It’s da** near impossible to get to the ACC Championship game as Kentucky. I would say totally impossible, but that seems implausible.

I’ve seen them do that on TV and I am convinced every time that the stadium is coming down.
