Karoline Striplin?

Ah, the ole “I look at stats instead of watching” argument. We have a lot of Negas who don’t watch but like to look at stats and choose the most unflattering to highlight.
Whaaaaat in the world are you talking about? It was a simple, straight-forward statement and has nothing to do with what you just said.

Similar mold as Puckett in that she is not suited for the 5 at the SEC level so she needs to play the 4. The big separator right now is that she doesn't appear to have the ball skills that Puckett has. If she is going to play the 4 offensively she needs some ball skills (some dribbling, but mostly passing and shooting). Would she struggle defensively guarding a more perimeter oriented player against a team that plays 4 guards like many teams do? Not sure I have seen enough to know that answer. I do know she has talent and a skill set and it is now up to her to develop and mold that into a role that she can be successful with. Writing off true freshman is beyond stupid.
Good post, ty

My take is that she does not have the defensive skills or knowledge that Kellie requires. That's understandable if you come from a small school as the offensive star. She has offensive skills. She posts up aggressively and is a good shooter. She is easily the best FT shooter on the team, and can hit a mid-range shot. She definitely has the size and build to be an effective post. She will learn defense and acquire those skills and be a contributor in the future.

After seeing a few clips of her and seeing her physique soon after the team started training for this season, I was one of the main people touting Karoline as a freshman likely to be giving significant minutes by this point in the season.

Clearly I was wrong about that, and I actually figured out I'd been wrong about that the first time Kellie was asked which freshmen were impressing her the most. The way she said, about Striplin something along the lines of, "She'll eventually figure it out and will find some way to help us," told me right then that NEXT year will be her real coming-of-age, not this year.

Obviously Striplin has a presence about her and we've seen her do some good stuff already, but I think after observing and practicing for a full year, and then after an offseason in which she actually understands what it's really all about to be a post player in the SEC, I look for Karoline to come back next season on a different level.

I wish I could go back in time and temper my own pre-season expectations of a freshman post. I've been watching this stuff more than long enough to know how crazy-difficult it is for a freshman to jump right into the college game. Yes, there are players who most certainly DO come to college ready to have a huge impact on their team/ league from the start -- but they are exceptional players.

Karoline will probably work like crazy in the offseason, and I'm already excited for her. If she could step up next year and give Kellie similar minutes/production to what Keyen gave, WOW!!! We'll be some happy supporters. 😃

Karoline is chiseled and has a good skill set. I am sure she is a total beast in the weight room. From the few observation points we have, I don't think she has learned to leverage her physical strength against players who can match up. I am sure in HS she just over powered everybody. At this level her body positioning, footwork, and speed of decision making needs considerable work. Next season and certainly as a junior, I think she will be a major contributor. For this season, it looks like the Puckett and Dye combo are going to have fill the void when Key is not on the court.

True. Plus, Dye had a pretty rough first half an also had foul problems early. These ladies need to take charge and up their game which I believe they will.
