The case is about expanding double jeopardy to include instances where the federal or state government has already prosecuted an individual for specific crimes such that the other government then could not.

The conspiracy theory is that Trump would be able to pardon, for instance, Manafort from his federal crimes and the state would no longer be able to prosecute him because of double jeopardy.

They just took the cowards way out. They could have let it come to a vote and then voted him down, but they knew they had no justification to support a no vote.

Just like it says in the Constitution that the senate shall provide "advice and consent ... unless it's the last year of the president's term and the president's party does not control the senate."

Of note, the witness list came from Senate Republicans. Sounds like they drove this.

Swetnick will be addressed at least initially by talking to Judge.

If initial interviews lead to more potential witnesses they have the option to increase the witness list.

I really hope McConnell included views from Flake, Collins, and Murkowski in setting the guidelines they passed to the WH

The advice was to let the voters decide. It’s called a new precedent just like Reid’s with the nuclear option. What else you got fake internet lawyer?
