Congress doesn't launch one of these official investigations that Kavanaugh talks about, so its a moot point on what his opinion on official investigations is. They "review". calling impeachment an empty threat goes a long way to dismissing the whole system, again not something Kavanaugh even could weigh in on.
if the legislative can't be trusted who do we turn to. we already have justices, RBG, coming out and saying Trump should be removed regardless of any evidence put in front of her. so we can't trust the Judiciary already. Trump is obviously incompetent so we can't trust him. what else are we supposed to do?
There are measures in place. The Supreme Court doesn't even get involved in impeachment except the chief justice as the supervisor (I forget the official term). so your problem shouldn't be with Kavanaugh. the system as a whole should be your issue, you are just using Kavanaugh as a scapegoat.
This totally ignores the context of the conversation, and I need to rehash some things.
1. In 2009, Kavanaugh wrote a law review article suggesting that legislation be passed exempting the president from civil and criminal investigation.
2. I was called intellectually dishonest for saying Kavanaugh opined that the president should be immune from prosecution.
3. The article basically says “well this would be a safe move because... impeachment.” A comment that I probably disregarded as toothless when I read it in August and missed when I skimmed it this morning, and I was well trolled over this mistake.
4. Impeachment is toothless. Impeachment without investigation is hopeless and toothless.
The discussion was only ever intended as a logical proof to show that Kavanaugh in fact believes that the president should effectively be immune from scrutiny for crimes. This is abundantly clear if you examine the article through the lens of our current political situation, the situation as it existed in 2009 when the article was written, and as it has existed since 1998 when the senate failed to remove Clinton. Criticisms of the system we have were made to provide context.
I don’t approve of any Supreme Court Justice who takes that position, for reasons that should be obvious by now.
His ability to directly affect Donald Trump is largely beside the point. I don’t care about Trump. His opinions and written work are the best measure of what he will be like as a Justice for possibly 40 years or more.
