Kellie Harper discussion/debate thread [merged]

...If Fulmer exhausted all avenues and looked at the top coaches in the game and concluded that Harper was the best choice — because of who she is, because of her progress in this profession as demonstrated by taking Missouri State to the Sweet 16, not because she played her college ball for the late, great Summitt — then fine. If cost was not a consideration here, as it sure as heck should not have been for one of the top two programs in the history of women’s college basketball and the most storied sports program in UT history, fine.

If this was settling in any way, the perceived tradeoff being a link to Summitt, it’s an inexcusable risk. Either way, it’s now on Harper, 41, to return the Lady Vols to the level of consistent SEC championships, Final Four runs and national championship contention. That’s the Summitt standard. It’s a ridiculous standard, but that’s why she was one of the greatest coaches in the history of American sports.

If Harper can’t get the Lady Vols back there, this will go down as a giant mistake on Fulmer’s AD résumé, and everyone will wonder why he thought it was necessary to try again with a former UT player. And the Lady Vols fans who loved Warlick and hated seeing her go through the meat grinder will have to watch it all over again with another beloved figure who helped build this program.

Turns out Fulmer was a giant mistake as AD but we didn’t need the Lady Vols’ struggles to know that.

I expect the Lady Vols to win this by double digits and all the CKH supporters will start yelling she righted the ship. Well first off she might plug the hole but this ship is still on its way down.

Not to worry. The ship has sunk.

Coach hasn’t recruited (can’t, won’t, whatever) and it shows. Nor has she developed the players she has. Finally, she is lost in-game as a coach. It’s time for a change. Sad.

Also, we've all known and said from jump street KJH was a gamble. Many of us hoped it would work out given more money and facilities than she'd ever had, but it's just been a hump she can't get over. And she's had incredibly bad luck with injuries.
Pat Summit would lose her mind if she saw this team. We are not even close to where we used to be. Sad to see how far we have fallen.
We don't have the kind of players Pat had. Except one, and she's in seemingly endless injury protocol.

Just like her NCSU tenure proved, this is just too big of a stage for her. She was a great player and she's perfectly fine in the Missouri Valley. Just like all the warning signs were there with Pruitt, Fulmer just buried his head and chose to ignore them when he made this hire....

The next 3 months needs to be about making this exit as graceful as possible for all involved and having the next candidate lined up and ready to go....

Fulmer openly admitted that he wasn't putting much into the basketball hire. Said getting football fixed was the priority.

Only at UT do we hire an AD with no administrative experience that can't hire and openly admits to not doing his job...

Worse than all of this is the players outside of Karoline simply didn’t care tonight. They don’t respect their coach and it’s because she does nothing to command respect.

Well after this recent loss. I sure hope Danny White is kicking tires, at least, at replacing the coaches of the Lady Vols.

Some said that about Warlick: "Oh, if only she'll bring in a great assistant coach".....essentially meaning, "Oh, if only she'd hire an assistant who's a better coach than she is, we'll improve." That's not the way it's supposed to work. Many suddenly want to make the husband the scapegoat. That should stop.
holly commanded zero respect and would have been same if she had brought in asst coach no matter who it was
