Kellie Harper discussion/debate thread [merged]

What ranked teams did any of those other 3 play or even attempt to play and win? Those teams have played very few games against teams ranked above 150 in the net. Had Tennessee played any of those teams schedules they would probably be ranked in the top 10 net rankings. Wins and point spread play a big role in the net rankings.
True, but Tennessee had an opportunity to do just that against Eastern Kentucky and then just barely eked out a 9-point win.

Other than Jackson and keeping Horston the best players she has obtained are yet to come. That being Cooper, Boyd, and Brooks. If she had those three and could recruit two or three more inside players she would have an elite team. Hopefully if everything goes bad this season we don't lose those three players.

Yes, I wish it would be merged into the already existing Kellie Harper thread since it is beating the same drum.

I guess negavols like to cut and paste across multiple threads.

If you are not a NegaVol concerning the Lady Vols, then you are NOT a true supporter of Tenn having a great team.
I guess some people with little concern for the program can remain happy with this very low level of performance.
As for myself, I want more !!

Nobody is saying, how wonderful the LVs are a .500 team and have fallen out of the top 25. We are so content!!!

But, there is no reason not to hope that the LVs can turn this season around and make a run.

Kellie's fate as HC will be decided after this season is completed.

There is a difference between being disappointed that the team is not doing better, and analyzing shortcomings, and actively hoping that the team completely implodes so that one can post "see, I told you so!!"

No question, a Uconn started a new thread condemning the coaching staff, rather than just contributing to the existing one, as a means to spark even more negativity. I am guessing the Boneyarders love to talk about how this board is melting down or something.

PS, just realized that this extraneous Uconner troll thread has been merged into the existing one. Justice prevails!!!!

Lets assume the team does turn this season around and at least gets an invite to the NCAAT. Would you support keeping the coach for a few more years to maintain this subpar level?

IMO next year is likely to force the issue. Certainly Cooper and Boyd should help but the gaping holes in recruiting are starting to show. Next year all 3 big on the roster, TK if she stays, Strip and Jill will be seniors. The entire rest of the roster is guards with Sara thrown in. Most will be seniors. They absolutely have to have a quality, preferably youngish big in the portal this spring.

For the most part, we've seen next year's team the last few weeks and it probably won't be helpful to KJH's cause at all. Reasonable to expect Jewel and Wells to get better, although development is not always on a straight line around here. But unless they get a dynamic scorer and/or a high quality big, alot of things will come to a head after next year.

As I said before the season, anything less than a Sweet 16 finish could be a trigger for a coaching change or putting Kellie on a very short leash. In reality no standard is absolute. For example, if the LVs pulled a miracle and won the conference or the SEC tournament that would probably keep her in the job even if they stumbled in opening weekend in the tournament. But, in general, they have to at least match last season's outcomes. Now how long would UTAD tolerate a steady state of being reliably decent but not great?

Old timers will remember the Don Devoe years on the men's side; lots of 20 win seasons but not much tournament success and then the team slipped a bit from that consistent level. So, Devoe was fired and replaced with Wade Houston (who on paper looked like a pretty good hire), which began a long period of being lost in the basketball wilderness.

So, if change comes best be sure about the replacement.

I was not asking what might or could happen, rather what YOUR choice would be.....

My choice does not mean diddly squat. Only Danny White's choice matters here but to answer your question I like Kellie and the culture she is wanting to establish.

So my choice would be for her to suddenly become the second coming of CPS, John Wooden, and Phil Jackson and lead the LVs to ten straight undefeated seasons.

Failing that, I would like her to find the magic moment she had in her 3rd season when the LVs were 18-1 (against a pretty tough schedule). She can do it...

Kellie is in her 20th season as a head coach, and 5th as the head coach at Tennessee.

It's amazing how many here still subscribe to the definition of insanity...

Elvee, you have become quite enamored with that quote. Interestingly, it is often attributed to Albert Einstein but there is no record of him ever uttering it. The phrase more likely originated in the 1980's as part of a campaign to encourage addicts to change their lifestyles to better overcome their sefl-destructive habits..

And speaking of addiction (as a definition of insanity), you been haranguing LV fan boards about the poor coaching and the need for change going back to CPS (and you were firmly in "the game has passed her' by camp). And you have continued kvetching through the Holly (and her SEC titles and great 8 appearances) and Kellie eras. Yet, all this moaning and groaning has not gotten you what you claim to want--"a coach that meets the standard"--but you're still going loud and proud, particularly whenever the team hits a rough patch. Crazy stuff indeed.
