it had previously been reported that juco wr kenbrell thompkins did not follow through on plans to enroll early at tennessee. Well, apparently becoming a vol is no longer in his plans. In fact, thompkins told jcfootball.com (via the tulsa world) that all sec schools are out of the picture now. (even though he is from miami.) and so is lane kiffin's new employer, usc, even though it's not far from his junior college. "i'm not going to go down that road again with (the staff)," thompkins said. "i've already been burned once, i don't want to get burned again."

thompkins, a juco teammate of vols qb signee matt simms, who is sticking with tennessee, said that he likes oklahoma a lot but he doesn't have a current favorite. It sounds as if he is staying at el camino (calif.) college for a final semester to evaluate his options.

That's interesting because I think that the JUCO's have a different signing day and he is already signed.

If I'm not mistaking he and Simms can't 'decommit' at this point..

He can transfer but he can't decommit...

But I don't begrudge this kid...or any of them for that matter....for wanting to look around...

I think this years recruits have been hosed worse than anyone in this situation...especially the EE's

Considering he signed a LOI, he cannot simply decommit. If he wants to continue playing at some JUCO, fine. Otherwise, he'd have to sit out a year, which would effectively give him one year of playing time.

Are you all positive he signed his LOI? Ive heard numerous times he did but I wasnt sure.

Only three things it can be:

1.) He knows/expects he can get a waiver.
2.) He has no clue about this process and will get shellshocked by it at some point.
3.) He doesn't care that he'll have to burn his redshirt year to play his last two years somewhere else.

He CAN'T deCOMMIT!!!! He CAN opt to transfer..... Fix the less than factual title.

No...just trying to provide some optimism...we lost 3 coaches ...1 was a good recruiter.

Just based on the quotes he seems less likely to be here than Ambles. Markeith's dad at least made it sound like they are just worn out of all the recruiting and maybe (just maybe) he'll realize a good core of recruits is staying and that he should stick out his commitment to get this whole thing over with. KT though, his articles quote him as saying he's done with SEC schools and that he feels *burned* by Kiffin.

I just don't see any better way to get back at the Evil One than to stick with UT and help our offense to be the best it can be the next two years he'd be here.

But alas, it's up to him in the end.

Thompkins was not on campus/enrolled yet. He was trying to clear up his academic situation in junior college before he would be able to enroll. So technically, he's not bound anywhere yet.

Simms was here early and participated in bowl week practice. He's stuck.

Simms and Thompkins both SIGNED a LOI before Christmas.

Rivals has two players already signed with us. Simms and Thompkins. So either somebody has the wrong information or he doesnt know what he is talking about.

Not saying they sucked, but they weren't doing the heavy lifting either...we'll see.:)

That's bull. I'm not a Kiffin hater. I would've done the same thing he did. Probably would've done it differently, but there's no way I don't follow my dreams and make me and my family happy. Lane and Monte were major attractions for recruiting purposes. CLT and CEO did a lot too. But, don't act like Lane and Monte didn't close a ton of deals on a bunch of recruits.

Said it yourself, they were the major attraction, well Monte anyway, but they weren't going into a house in alabama and closing the deal...nobody would buy that wrecked lexus! All that bunch cared about was having a # 1 signing class, when they realized they couldn't deliever, they got yellow and ran. Makes ya appreciate what Fulmer, majors and Battle were up against.
