Kenbrell Thompkins DEcommits

I think its completely wrong to call Raynochonspeed a bandwagon fan just because he is skeptical and questioning the hire.
He has every right to take a wait and see approach.
he can be "bleed orange" and still not believe the hire was a sound decision.
I get what he's saying. He wants the coach to prove he can win before he gets behind him 100%.

I'll admit Dooley isnt who I wanted as my first choice, I would have preferred Calhoun or Sumlin but CDD is who we have and I WILL support him.
and as for our class slipping to 50-60 range. I can not see that happening.

Exactly. We've been burned, we SHOULD be cautious. I mean last year I bought 10 tickets for friends and family to all go support the Prince of Darkness at the O&W game and this year I can't imagine doing that. I'm adopting the wait and see, but once again (assuming Dooley is more than one & done) we shouldn't just trash Dooley if his first couple of years is difficult.

It was ALREADY going to be difficult with Lane's class coming in to compete next year. Patchwork and young at a lot of positions. So now we're going to be patchwork, young, with a new system and a new coach.

But with a few guys coming back on board now, and if Dooley can just pull a couple of serviceable in-state kids or guys that weren't considering us with Kiffin here, we're not going to freefall to 50-60 in recruiting rankings. Skepticism is fine, over-dramatizing the situation is a little much.

One this is clear....opinions will vary. It is not conducive to slam an individual becuase he states his views. In spite of personnal feelings about the state of the program....when the ball is teed up next fall, we all will have our orange colored glasses on. Till then, we will continue to debate....we should show a measure of respect to board members.

The problem isn't Dooley. I'm sure he is a fine person. But he is green and an unproven commodity and our 6th choice and not someone I will blindly support just because Hamilton and the boosters threw a bunch of money at him. This isn't the military; you are not required to genuflect just because you are told.

If Dooley goes out and grabs some talented recruits and proves himself to be a capable game manager, I'll jump on board. Until then, I'll call this entire situation what it is.

A Royal F- Up.

just like Pete Carroll was USC's 5th or 6th choice 9 yrs ago.It worked out pretty well for them..

CDD definitely wasn't the sexy pick, but those sexy picks don't work out more times than not(ie Charlie Weis,he who must not be named,Rich Rod,etc.)
Also, you mentioned the record of 17-20, the 1st yr is a wash, from inheriting a bad program, the next yr was 8-4 & a bowl win. Last yr he had a ton of injuries on the 3 deep, tons of freshmen playing who weren't ready, but had to play b/c there was no one els,& led LSU in the 2nd half before losing by 9, & played Boise St as tough as anyone. He also played a bunch of these payday games by playing big schools for the money. When has Boise St or Utah ever played a big school outside of a bowl game? They don't, that's why everybody always look at their SOS.

I think we're all in a wait & see mode since we don't have a lot to go on. But if we hired Muschamp, what would we have to go on, a talented TX team that gave up 38pts to Bama in the NCG, or 35pts to OU last yr when FL only gave up 14?
At least he has gotten some HC experience at a lower tier school,& despite a 17-20 record, they all seem to love the man. He did give them their first bowl win in 50+ years, that has to say a little something

Despite that fact that my apprehensions have proven to be valid, I haven't been on this board crowing "I told ya so!"

You had apprehensions that Lane would get a better job offer after year 1? Sure doesn't look that way from your previous posts.

CDD definitely wasn't the sexy pick

This is undoubtedly true, even DD has admitted as much in the presser and BB game interview. That said, is anyone else surprised at how much media love this hire is getting? As a whole, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

This is the pervasive mentality on this board that is the most maddening and easily the most ignorant.

Voicing dissent is necessary. "just get with the program"? Why, if the program is wrong? I am, and will always be, 100% Vol. Like a father, I will wholly love them, even when they royally f- up. And this situation is a Royal F- Up. Hamilton should be tossed out this week. Jimmy Sexton whipped Hamilton with the way Kiffin's contract was constructed. Of course he split when USC opened up! It cost him nothing. And to have no contingency plan in effect in case an event like this arose reeks of unpreparedness and a bit of hubris.

In the South, the UT job is a top 10 job. Outside the South, UT has become almost irrelevant, an also-ran, equivalent to a Wisconsin, a Boston College, an Arizona State.

Look at our schedule next year. Were you to ask fans from around the nation to rank the UT program in 2010 against our opponents, where would we fall? In the past 5-7 years (coincidentally the most important years in the program to players we are currently recruiting - our potential future stars), UT would certainly be ranked behind:

1) Florida
2) Alabama
3) Oregon
4) LSU
5) Ole Miss
6) Georgia [yes, head-to-head we've been great, but Georgia has been more successful overall - that is noticed on a national scale]

7) UT ??

8) South Carolina
9-12) the rest

The problem isn't Dooley. I'm sure he is a fine person. But he is green and an unproven commodity and our 6th choice and not someone I will blindly support just because Hamilton and the boosters threw a bunch of money at him. This isn't the military; you are not required to genuflect just because you are told.

Where do you coach? Oh...no where? That's what I thought. By the way that you type, and probably talk, you're not from the East Tenn area. SO, why don't you just go back to where you came from and quit posting on here because you obviously know nothing of the tradition that is Tennessee football. Dooley may be green, but he is also the VOLUNTEER HEAD COACH. So, when he's at the helm, the TRUE vol fans will stand behind and push for their coach not call him a royal f- up. Guess what? His dad was an amazing coach at Georgia, so he has the liniage to be one as well. Not to mention going 8-4 at LA Tech is pretty much unheard of. Give the guy the credit that is due to him, he did coach on a nat'l championship team. He also coach in the NFL. So, who are you to say that anyone is green or a Royal F- up that's been to the NFL, you haven't. GO COACH DOOLEY!!!!!! The TRUE vol fans stand behind you.

Dooley said he would start regionally, he never said East Tennessee. What he meant was tn, ga, sc, al, nc, ms, etc.

He said East TN...just watched it again

I hope he recruits regionally ...maybe some let him know after the presser what he will find in E TN

So pretty much you are a bandwagon fan, you are going to say that you hated the hire until he wins a big game and then you are going to brag about how good of a coach he is. I value you openion about as much as I would value Lane Kiffin's opinion.
BTW Ole Miss will be not very good next year and I know they are not the 5th best team we will play.
You should change your name to Mr.Bandwagon cause that is exactly what you are.

He never said he was a bandwagon fan ?! He presented you with some objective facts and his interpretation of those .
I am still a Vol fan , and hope they win every play or every game.
That being said ...there is nothing to support that CDD is the guy that can turn this thing around . There is nothing in his resume that lends itself to that . He did not 'turn around' LA Tech . He won 1 more game that the previous coach ...in a three year span .
Has Bobby Johnson turned Vandy around ? He posted a winning season , went to a bowl game and won , and knocked off UT , AU , GA , and USCe , and beat UF but got shafted by the refs . Given those facts he has...but when you look at the whole picture ...he has not .
CDD recruited with CNS . CNS is , was , and always will be a great recruiter. What is it that would make you believe he can go into the homes of top notch recruits and make them want to come play for him ? No winning record, limited NFL experience , is NOT and will not be a media presence . Kids west of the Mississippi won't know who he is until he introduces himself . These kids have mammas , daddies, relatives, HS coaches , and advisers , that research and are in the know.

Again , you can throw out insults , give me bandwagon status , say I should call to order and salute ...but I just don't see this being a successful hire for the reasons I have given . If there is crow to be served in a couple of years , I will be the first in line and will be happy that I was wrong

How in the world can you say that he is not a bandwagon fan. He said that once he brings in top recruits and is a capable game manager, then he will jump on board, until then he is going to question the hire. That is a bandwagon fan, he is pretty much saying until he brings in the top talent and wins ball games he will not support him but when he does he is going to support him. That my friend is called being a bandwagon fan.

My defention of a bandwagon fan is somebody that is negative until his or her team starts winning or doing well, that is pretty much what Raynoch is saying.

My interpretation ...he does not buy into the hire . He is still a fan . He will believe success when he sees success.
He can speak for himself .

I am still 100% all Orange . I think this is a bad hire with very little chance of obtaining success. Hopefully , I am wrong . I am going to be cheering for the team and coach . Objectively , however , all signs appear to point to bad results.

No he didn't. I have watched it three times and he never says east tennessee. He said the regional area outside of Knoxville, and they would work from the inside out. however, he makes it clear that tenn must recruit nationally when he says ut is a national brand.

Furthermore, only a fool would think Dooley would recruit from East TN only.

This may be my all-time favorite response to one of my posts. The amount of blissful ignorance displayed in this post is priceless.

First off, to claim that you took the time to register for VolNation just to call me an idiot - wow, that is just pathetic.

Where do you coach? Oh...no where? That's what I thought.

I highly doubt anyone on this entire board is a coach at a major Division 1 program. Nor would I imagine are you, TennTakedown, a coach. So I could ask you the same asinine question. Regardless of that fact, my opinions are still just as valid as anyone else's, barring those who actually coach for UT.

By the way that you type, and probably talk, you're not from the East Tenn area.

This is the single dumbest assessment I've ever read. Where did you get your degree in linguistic forensics?! How were you able to discern that nugget of wisdom?

Unfortunately for you, you are 100% incorrect. I was born and raised in east Tennessee. How exactly do I "type, and probably talk"? Grammatically correctly?

Let me give you my analysis. Your location is listed as "Murvil". Now, I could be wrong, but that sounds like an iteration of "Maryville", but steeped in that "happily redneck" mentality. I'd bet you think that Larry the Cable Guy is just hilarious. "Git 'er dun!"

SO, why don't you just go back to where you came from and quit posting on here because you obviously know nothing of the tradition that is Tennessee football.

Again, go back to east Tennessee? And, I'd venture I've followed Tennessee football longer than you have been alive.

Dooley may be green, but he is also the VOLUNTEER HEAD COACH. So, when he's at the helm, the TRUE vol fans will stand behind and push for their coach not call him a royal f- up.

This is where your true ignorance shines. Never did I, nor would I, call Coach Dooley a royal f- up. He is obviously an intelligent man and a capable, if unproven, football mind. I called the situation, the entire bungled hiring process, a Royal F- Up. Obviously, reading and writing are not your fortes. Which begs the question, are you competent at anything?

Guess what? His dad was an amazing coach at Georgia, so he has the liniage to be one as well.

Lineage (note the spelling) is definitely not a predictor of future coaching success. Mike Shula, Tommy Bowden, Lane Kiffin. Again, your argument is invalid. Not surprising.

Not to mention going 8-4 at LA Tech is pretty much unheard of. Give the guy the credit that is due to him, he did coach on a nat'l championship team.

Many, many, many coaches have been on national championship staffs. That doesn't mean UT should throw the keys to their program to anybody that has. Dooley wasn't even a coordinator on the LSU championship team.

He also coach in the NFL. So, who are you to say that anyone is green or a Royal F- up that's been to the NFL, you haven't. GO COACH DOOLEY!!!!!! The TRUE vol fans stand behind you.

Let's just ignore the bad grammar, CAPS LOCK mania, and multiple exclamation points and all that implies. A true Vol fan can support the coach and still fully question the hire and the process. When Coach Dooley stands on the sidelines against UT-Martin, I'll be rooting for him and the team to succeed. But until he proves he deserves the title of Head Coach of the Tennessee Volunteers, I choose to reserve judgment.

But, thank you, TennTakedown, for making me laugh this morning.

Your "defention"? Wow.

Your definition, sadly for you, isn't even close to what practically everyone means by "bandwagon".

Blindly supporting your team's choices, regardless of how ridiculous they are, is infinitely worse than questioning the choice. What if Hamilton had re-hired Fulmer? Or Johnny Majors? Or hired Ryan Leaf? RuPaul? Dame Judi Dench? According to your "defention", only a bandwagon fan would question those choices. But you, westtnvol, would gladly accept UT's selection?

Furthermore, I am not negative. I am brutally realistic. But no matter my emotional state, I will love and root for my Vols, regardless of the decisions of the administration. That is the true antithesis of bandwagon.

Something to take into consideration with CDD is that he could have stayed with Saban at Alabama and been recruiting coordinator and been a very very hot coaching commidity, but no he went out on his own. As for him not being able to sell himself, he was a lawyer, I figure he will be pretty good with the parents. I understand what Raynoch is saying about the whole thing being messed, which it has, I think we got the best coach at the time, we were not going to get a big named coach in here right now.

Back to Thompkins, any chance he comes back to UT or is he done with us. From what I heard he was pretty angry at everything.

again like i was saying you dont coach anywhere nor are you an ad anywhere so who are you to question anyones hire. you obviously arnt very proud of where your from cause otherwise you wouldn't be sittin on you side of the keyboard talking trash about the direction of the football program. and obviously i'm not the only one that thinks your an idiot lol...as i can see there's quite a few.

from what he said, and yes i'm going off what he said, Dooley doesn't plan on leaving rocky top anytime soon so that makes it automatically a better hire than FAGboy. if he turns out to be anything like saban i'll be more than happy. as for right now i'm very excited about the direction of the program and looking forward to a head coach that doesnt plan on leaving after a year

Dude...stop...

You're pwning this guy so bad I'm starting to feel sorry for him :eek:lol:

To change the subject...Kenbrell Thompkins?!

Go Vols!
Yes, back to the subject at hand, Kenbrell Thompkins will be, in my opinion, a tough guy to get back in the wake of this mess. He is a JUCO and, I'm guessing, ready to play for a contender immediately, not be part of a rebuilding/reclamation project surrounded by uncertainty. Were he an incoming freshman, the situation might be different.

And, yes, go Vols!
