Kent stepping away from the program

Tennessee doesn’t have a lot of “big men” and are certainly thin at center, with Fulk being the only true center option. However Tennessee does have a lot of size and length overall.....and that should help a lot.

For size Tennessee has: 6-2, 6-5, 6-6, 6-6, 6-6, 6-7, 6-8, 6-9, and 6-10.

Pember is 6-10, if there ever was a 6-10 player.

Tennessee can also play some zone if needed. They have that and work at it.

Don’t get me wrong Tennessee could have really used Plavsic this season; however I don’t think the “size” will be a big problem......unless Fulk gets in foul trouble early or if he gets injured.[/QUOTE Ditto. Pember is 6'10".

I wouldn’t look for this to happen often if ever; however for simple “size” Tennessee could put:

At the 1. 6-6
At the 2. 6-6
At the 3. 6-10
At the 4. 6-8
At the 5. 6-9

And all of them fairly lengthy as well.

Pember looks tiny next to Fulkerson. Guy wasn't afraid to get roughed up a bit around the basket though. He had 5 trips to the free throw line (10 FTs) and grabbed at least 3 rebounds. However he struggled to stay on his defensive assignment.

Yea

That last part is the only reason he hasn’t been playing more (my opinion).

In Barnes system you have to be able to play D first. I do think he will grow and contribute often this season.

Any news on Kent?

I hope he didn’t have an adrenaline overload and now can’t sweat.

I mean you got to be able to sweat to play basketball.

(Bad timing for something so good probably.....12am, and page 3...oh well)

I thought he was supposed to be a shooter. If he can't drain 3s, he brings nothing else

Uh.....he did have 5 assists and 13 rebounds. He can also relieve Turner at point when needed. James is 6-6, can handle the ball, plays good D, makes sound decisions, rebounds well, and usually doesn’t hurt the team......his shooting will come around.....

oh and even with this game he is still shooting at 46% so far this season, and shooting 67% from 3.

So maybe he brings something........just maybe.

Think he is referring to Jalen Johnson. Most refer to Johnson as JJ and Josiah Jordan James as JJJ.

My bad.....I’m wrong again.

On Johnson, I really think (hopefully) he can come around as the season progresses.

Who knows what will/would happen when/if he plays a larger role. However consistent stats usually don’t lie. He has been a really good shooter overall and he is a very good 3 point shooter.

Sure those stats my not hold “true” with more playing time, but I really think they will be at least “somewhat stable.” He may never be a guy that gets you 12 per game.....but I think we will see his shot come around and his %’s stay fairly high.

Again, he might not be an O difference maker (ever.....I don’t know); however I really think we will see his shot improve quickly.

On a side note. “If” he doesn’t become a “difference maker” this season......he may never get the chance. I mean by next year he could get lost in the shuffle and receive even less playing time.

But nevertheless I hope he gets his game going soon.

No, No, No another failure of Barnes. WHY WHY cant he rise up the incompetent to competence?

Disappointed.

Yeah, would love to have a consistent shooter coming off the bench, but he wasn’t even close tonight. And if he doesn’t shoot reasonably well, there really isn’t much point in giving him minutes. He isn’t a ball handled, nor a facilitator, nor a rebounder, and doesn’t defend that well. He has got to give us at least 10 quality minutes on the floor as our depth is minimal. Vescovi would be a welcomed addition in early 2020.
He just doesn’t have it. He’s been able to take his time with no pressure for a couple of years and now the opportunity is here and we just aren’t seeing much. The last thing this team needs is a guard who isn’t a ball handler.

I was pleasantly impressed with Pember’s play, especially with the preseason talk by some of him being a wasted scholarship and would never play. He has a smooth shooting stroke and he’s not afraid to mix it up in the paint. I question whether he can stay healthy until he fills out more if he does more than hang on the perimeter.

Gaines will push Johnson all season to take his minutes. Whoever improves the most will play the most

Definitely made some things happen while he was in there. Seems to have a nose for the ball.

Lol

You haven’t been watching enough. Johnson is our best 3 pt shooter statistically speaking at over 40% for his career WITH THE LIGHTS ON.

Good grief the kid goes 0/3 and posters think he can’t shoot all of a sudden
They were just plain ugly shots. Idk if he’s just in a slump, or if he feels the pressure now because he’s finally getting some meaningful playing time. But we’ll see if he ever figures it out
