Kent stepping away from the program

Barring injury were fine in the post as Kent wasn't in the mix anyway. Talking about 80 minutes that is easily filled by Fulkerson, Yves, and Olivier at 25 minutes each and you don't lose to much considering last night if you work Pember in there for five or ten minutes. I think the bigger concern is at point guard where were having to work Turner there so much even in the early games. The talk about his shoulder is concerning cause he is a guy of the 9 on the roster we can't afford to lose anytime from this season.

This has to be one of the strangest roster evolutions that I can recall:

Per Basilio:

I'm hearing he left the team for a family related issue. Out of respect for the young man we're not going to get into speculation as to what's occurred that's led him to give up his basketball responsibilities for now with the Vols. I do believe that the door would be open for him to perhaps return to the team by season's end.

Obviously not ideal, but I don’t think an injury to Pember, Gaines or Johnson derails the season.
No, I mostly agree there, but I was referring to one of the 6 main contributors. An injury to any one of them could drastically alter our season, and two of those guys have had chronic injury issues, one of which is already feeling some ill-effects of his latest surgery (Turner).

I agree. Also if Fulkerson ever gets hurt, we are going to be in a heap of trouble.

Agree about that part

I have always wondered if adding a walk on guard who might not be an offensive stalwart, also not a defensive liability, but a great ball handler, passer and a good FT shooter is not possible to throw out there in clock burning press breaking situations to take the pressure off a team built like ours now.... sure seems like I used to see some candidates in intramurals. Was hoping that might be the role our latest addition is to fill, but not seeing that in stats or discussions....

Maze is a walk on guard. Don't know if he's more of a 1 or a 2.

Fleschman was first walk on off the bench last game, also has some experience under his belt, could be a possibility.

Fulky walking around holding his wrist last game had me a little concerned also.

So gassed there at one point he looked a little intoxicated. Chuckled a wee bit.

I guess I have always seen our walk on guards as three point snipers, not ball handling specialists with enough speed to help beat traps... Don't have to be too tall if all your shots are from the charity stripe sans defenders.....

He wasn't just holding it. He waved to the bench to be subbed out (they didn't see him). Based by the look on his face, he was in extreme pain. It was his surgically repaired right wrist. I thought it was a disaster. Then he literally shook it off and continued on to the offensive end after AL State took their 2 free throws.

Tough as nails and leaves it all on the floor.

So we are comparing Fr. Fulky and Fr. Pember because they are both......? They are not even close to the same type of players. Fulky showed a lot of promise as a freshman because he was already "what he is" and that is a long bouncy high energy post player with no perimeter game. That's not that difficult to translate onto the court as a freshman. Pember is not that and doesn't appear that he will every be that. He is a developmental prospect. There is less certainty of what he will become. He has a rare combination of size, length, shooting ability, and feel for the game on the offensive end of the court. That is promising. But he is a long ways from that type of ceiling as a player. I would equate it to him having a ceiling of becoming one of those players that Gonzaga just always seems to have on their team. It's also unlikely her gets to that point any time soon. And he might never develop the strength and physicality and defense to get to that point.

I don't think strength will be a problem with Pember, he's thicker than he looks now. I was really impressed with his shot, he's smooth and plays at a good tempo. Anyone with that size, athleticism and shooting stroke has a chance to be a really good player. As for Fulky, let's get into conference play before we decide what type player he's going to be. I hope he can maintain it but feel like he's going to get exposed down the road.

I think Fulk was more physical, but Pember really seems to have good hands.

I strongly endorse haircuts for both, but that's just me I guess.
Yes, and guys with great hands, especially early in their careers, have a chance to be more active and better contributors than the "hands of stone" guys.

Except that he came in in mop up the other night and pretty much filled it up.

Sounds like this door is closed. Just waiting to make an official announcement.
