Kent stepping away from the program

I was pleasantly impressed with Pember’s play, especially with the preseason talk by some of him being a wasted scholarship and would never play. He has a smooth shooting stroke and he’s not afraid to mix it up in the paint. I question whether he can stay healthy until he fills out more if he does more than hang on the perimeter.
Mop up minutes, but he basically did more in 8 minutes than Kent did in over two years.

Yeah he’s not there yet. Long ways to go. It’s pretty obvious Barnes and company would prefer to redshirt him but we don’t have the bodies.

IMO Vols will not miss him unless all the bigs foul out some night!Zach just hasn't developed into a player.

Pember looks pretty out of place inside ... and not quick enough to defend in perimeter .. he needs 40 pounds to handle inside plays.. he looked pretty iffy .. I think he spent more time on floor than standing up .. needs toughness and strength.. I saw where somebody said he would be all sec in 2 years .. lol . I want some of what he was drinking .
Agree. I think the kid has a chance to be a good player someday but all SEC in two years would be the surprise of the century.

Fulk showed a ton of promise as a freshman. Got detailed w an injury

Derailed in his 10th game. Pember was hurt in his first or second game.

I'm not saying Pember is better. But it's kind of early to say there's no comparison.

Dear lord last night was in mop up duty and most of his points were on foul shots.

Slow down the crowning

I'm not crowning anything. I just asked a question to those that are saying that there's no comparison with FR Fulk and are certain that Pember has no chance of becoming an All-SEC performer.

The fact he only got 8 minutes says a lot
May have been "mop up" but he was playing against the same players the starters were playing against. Apples to apples is always a fair comparison.

Fulkerson played 8 minutes in his first game, 7 in his second, and 5 in his third.

And those games were very different in that he played in the rotation. Pemper isn’t playing in the rotation
Fulky first game was against utc where we were fighting hard to stay close

But then played 37 minutes against Oregon and had a double-double 12 points and 10 rebounds. Also pember is more of a 3 than a 4 anyway imo so its hard to compare the two.

8, 7, and 5 contradicts that Fulk was "in the rotation from the start".

The lineups around them are also different. But I can see some similarities at this point. Pember is a better ball handler. Fulk was more active getting into passing lanes and flying up and down the court. Unless somebody gets hurt Pember won't have the same opportunity for minutes. O(R)N and Fulk might be a better comparison.

In 8 minutes, 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Better game this early in his career than JJ has ever had. I'm guessing than unless Johnson becomes a 3-point surgeon soon, he has what minutes he is getting now stripped away by others.
Teams are on to JJ's ability to shoot now and are not leaving him wide open anymore. He either has to take advantage of their agression and start driving to the basket or go back to the bench seat he has nearly worn out the last three years.
