Kentucky Basketball, one question/comment.

Don't misunderstand me, Cotton. I've never once said the Cats need to bring in Travis Ford. I'm simply making a case for Ford based on another post making the assumption his name only services because he played there. My point being is Ford has done a good job thus far in his coaching career and his accomplishments point that out. I want Kentucky to have the best coach they can have. If that's Billy G then so be it. I just can't help but wonder if BCG really gets what it means to coach at Kentucky soley based on some of his comments. I also don't like the way he makes himself look foolish to the media. It's one thing to have a beef with ESPN, it's another to be disrespectful to your own radio network.

Kentucky is a top 10 job in the country. They should be finding and hiring a top 10 coach in the country. I don't know a single person outside of Madisonville that would ever think Travis Ford would be on that list.

The 11 NC's (including 7 in a row at one point) speak for themselves.

Kentucky basketball coach is the best job in the country with North Carolina a close second and Duke and Kansas in the mix.

Just out of curiosity, and because I had a similar conversation with a fairly influencial Kentucky booster over lunch, what today makes UK a better coaching job than, for instance, Memphis?

that's the point. Nothing any longer. Those championships are getting long in the tooth and they've gone straight to Fulmer territory for mediocrity.

Oh, we're on the same page here for a change, BPV. Memphis can match any money UK can offer, has better facilities, is a recruiting monster, and has become a staple as a 1 or 2 seed in March, meaning there are going to be opportunities for Final Fours. What can UK offer that is better than that? Keeneland?

It isn't really a slap at Kentucky to say that it isn't a better job today, as I'm not sure any college job could pry me out of that seat were I in Cal's shoes.

why would someone coach at UK over UNC?

to quote pitino

"Kentucky is the Roman Empire of college basketball"

The arena, the fan base, the tradition, all in my opinion are better than UNC.

I am biased, as I grew up watching Kentucky basketball and I am a new age UT fan (I attend the university), but Kentucky basketball is one in its own.

He quoted that years ago, well before Tubby's new approach to recruiting and descent into the abyss. He also happened to be the coach there saying exactly what he should as the coach. The guys at UNC, KU, IU, UCLA, Duke, etc would tell you the same. Fortunately, for a couple of those schools, they don't share Kentucky's legendary cheating and racism awards.

It is funny that you quote another coach who I think is sitting in just as good a seat as the one in Lexington right now.

To be honest I would think he's in a better place than UK right now. He's got fans at that are just as passionate about basketball without the obscene through the roof expectations and sense of entitlement that most UK basketball fans seem to have.

I laugh at all the jealousy coming out of Knoxville regarding Kentucky Basketball. Kentucky is the pinnacle of college hoops. Has been for years and years and will continue to be. The program is not where we'd like it to be, but it will be back. You can count on that.

Also, BigPapa's charge of cheating and racism is old. I suggest you do your research on Adolph Rupp before making such charges. I'm talking actually researching and reading. He takes a bum rap from ignorant people.

Jealous over Billy? You guys practically fell over yourselves trying to get into Memorial Coliseum when he was announced as the new coach. Questionable head coaching experience and questionable conduct off the court was overlooked.

Wildcatnation and Catspause both had endless threads of how Billy was going to lead UK back to the "Promised Land" of final fours and NCAA titles.

In two years of "coaching", Billy has led UK to the "Land of Milk and Honey" of the NIT. Glory Hallelujah!! Free at last, we're free at last rings through the Bluegrass country.

A #4 seed in the NIT, losses to VMI, Gardner Webb, San Diego St., and a lowly Georgia team on the "Hallowed Floor" of Rupp Arena on senior day. What a memory Carter will have to tell his grandchildren.

Yeah, we've got a lot to be jealous about. Go back to Wildcatnation Red so you and the rest of the "Big Blew" faithful can console each other. :cray:

Go Runnin' Rebels!! :clapping:

All those things yet Kentucky Basketball still proves to be a hot topic on the Vols board as the NCAA tournament approaches. Anyone else would be an afterthought. That's what I'm talking about. NCAA or NIT, Kentucky is to college basketball what the New York Yankees are to baseball. Everyone's talking.

GO BIG BLUE!

At this point there may be an apt comparison to the Yankees and KY basketball but it has more to do with the Steinbrenner sideshow than winning actual ballgames and it is only because of the coaching death watch.

At this point the fan base gets what they deserve. Nobody was really all that happy with the football team this year. Now they are intent on running Billy Clyde out of town. I swear they're out for blood because they don't feel relevant, without understanding regardless of a tourney appearance they weren't ever relevant anyway.

On top of it all they blame it on the way that Billy Clyde treats reporters. I've heard and seen much worse from Hal Mumme, Rick Pitino etc... If BC was 30-4 we wouldn't be having any of these discussions. They want to feel important again.

And being an @$$ to the media got Mumme real far. It was 2-9, 2-9, and the media was not kind in return.
