Kentucky Basketball, one question/comment.

All those things yet Kentucky Basketball still proves to be a hot topic on the Vols board as the NCAA tournament approaches. Anyone else would be an afterthought. That's what I'm talking about. NCAA or NIT, Kentucky is to college basketball what the New York Yankees are to baseball. Everyone's talking.

GO BIG BLUE!

If you need to say things luke this to feel relevant rather than laughed at, knock yourself out.

Delusion at it's best from a UK fan.

The only reason your a hot topic on our board and among the media is because, we all can't believe how far UK has fallen.

Billy Clyde is brought in as the "Savior" and falls flat on his :shaking2:. 590 am and 630 am had their phone lines blown up by UK fans claiming that UK is back. The famous statement was made, " The sleeping giant has awoken." The sleeping giant is still down for the count.

UK and the Yankees? Surely you jest. :eek:lol:

UCLA and the Yankees is more compareable.
UK and the Chicago Cubs is a better comparison. "Just wait till next year."

Enjoy your NIT game tonight. If Billy loses, the state of Kentucky will implode. :swoon3:

Maybe UK will be a hot topic on PTI today like it was yesterday. :eek:lol:

Awake sleeping giant, awaaakkee!! Rear you ugly head.

I think you might be confusing "hot topic" and "good joke." It's funny to see such intense fans, for whom winning is a birthright, struggle to explain their place in the NIT. I actually watched the selection show with a couple of UK alumni, and believe it or not, there was an insane glimmer of hope every time Greg pulled a 15 seed, as it is just beyond comprehension that Dayton and Butler are attractive enough to get at-large bids and UK isn't a consideration.

I should pity them, but I don't.

It's cyclical. It wasn't as attractive a job during the D'oh!erty years.

It was attractive enough to lure Roy Williams away from Kansas as his replacement. As for hiring Bill Gutheridge's replacement, I would suggest that is an example of the dangers of a school limiting itself to an alumni hire.

And being an @$$ to the media got Mumme real far. It was 2-9, 2-9, and the media was not kind in return.

You and I both know that Mumme is still a hero in Lex. If it weren't for Claude Bassett he would have a street named after him by now.

Back to my orignal point...Billy Clyde could pile drive a female reporter onto a metal chair live on ESPN. If his record was 30-4 and he was a one seed 90% of Kentucky fans would be yelling for him to drop the elbow!

First paragraph: I think it's fair to say the blame does not rest solely with Bassett and that Mumme knew what he was doing and chose to overlook it. I think people up there are nuts if they consider Mumme a hero for gimmicking his way to an alum/Outback CEO driven Outback Bowl appearance, followed by years of probation. And, a missed bowl appearance in 2002.

Second paragraph: True and hilarious.

You are correct. It is Mumme's fault for hiring a complete "money odering" imbecile. If you get UK fans in a group they won't admit it, but individually they still miss the offense.

At this point there may be an apt comparison to the Yankees and KY basketball but it has more to do with the Steinbrenner sideshow than winning actual ballgames and it is only because of the coaching death watch.

They both missed the playoffs. That's a similarity.

Holly Rowe would kick his a$$.

to quote pitino

"Kentucky is the Roman Empire of college basketball"

The arena, the fan base, the tradition, all in my opinion are better than UNC.

I am biased, as I grew up watching Kentucky basketball and I am a new age UT fan (I attend the university), but Kentucky basketball is one in its own.

Didn't the Roman Empire collapse?

Well, like I said, we will see who is awesome and who sucks two years from now if BCG stays.

And let me remind you all of Jodie Meeks's 54 points against you all, and we went on to win that one by 18, then we won at Rupp by 19....WHO IS BETTER???

I'm not sure who is better, but could you send us a postcard from the NIT?

They did kick our butts - twice. Word around hear is mixed. Most want Billy G. gone yesterday. But realistically he may get one more year. He has not signed a contract yet just an agreement. Something in the contract that he does not like. A fan told me it has something to do with off the court behavior. Said he works hard and partys hard. He does have a chauffeur that is mandatory after 5 PM.

Cotton, Roy Williams was whoring after the UNC job for years because it's his blood.

You and I both know that Mumme is still a hero in Lex. If it weren't for Claude Bassett he would have a street named after him by now.

Disagree about Mumme. I couldn't stand him the last 2 years. When he started verbally abusing fans on the call-in show, I checked out.

haha about the second part. 30-4 would cure a lot of ills, but BCG just ain't likeable. If he loses tonight, look for some stupid threads titled "Will Billy D. Come?" or "What would it take to get back coach piteener?" at Catspause.
