Kentucky coaching situation

I think Pope is a better Xs and Os coach than Calipari, but he hasn't even scratched the surface of Cal's recruiting ability. The pressure from the UK fans, especially without that initial honeymoon season of confidence, may be too high to overcome.

He's already staring down the barrel of having to basically build a roster from scratch when every other major team has a head start in the portal. Most of us remember how quickly UK dumped Gillispie.

Mark Pope has *made* the NCAA tourney twice. Lost in the first round both times. This year, as a 6 seed, they lost to 11 seed Duquesne. In 2021, he was a 6 seed and lost to 11 seed UCLA.
So Kentucky hired a guy who has lost in first round twice and they were mad a Cal because he lost in first round. OK The difference is Cal brings in 5 star players and now the Kentucky will not. lol

This is great news for Vol fans. I live in SLC and when they first started reporting this earlier in the week I thought it was wild speculation by local media who are delusional about the quality of the local college sports teams here. I couldn’t be happier, the annoying BYU fans will be upset which is always good to see, and Tennessee should be able to dominate KY for another few years. Here is a local article for what it’s worth.

According to ESPN, Kentucky is now in talks with the BYU coach, who played for Kentucky and won a national title with the Cats. Word is they will get a deal done. We'll see.

As big as a program as Kentucky is, they are getting shot down from coaches at inferior programs such as Alabama, Baylor, etc

I hope this is a great example to Vols fans who want sooo badly to fire the best coach we hv ever had here in Tennessee history, Rick Barnes

It's an easy solution to fire a winning coach, its hard to find a legitimate replacement.

If I'm Kentucky, this is who I think you got to pursue right now:

1. Bruce Pearl
2. Mark Few
3. Lamont Paris
4. Will Wade
5. Rick Patino

If you whiff on all those guys, good luck

Might as well beg Calipari to come back

Sounds like it will be Pope.

Rothstein says it’s Pope. Oh boy. The meltdown is going to be hilarious

Pope would come to Kentucky with a résumé that's light for a job generally considered the best in the sport. He does not have an NCAA tournament win, and No. 11 BYU lost to No. 6 Duquesne 71-67 in the first round this year. In the 2021 tournament, No. 6 BYU lost to No. 11 UCLA in the first round.

The meltdown for reality is glorious and hardly any coaches even want to jump ship to land in this garbage ...ive enjoyed reading their forum lol

They never made a real run at Oats (thankfully), never would consider Will Wade, Pearl, Beard, or Pitino. Anyone with any blemish wasn’t gonna get a real look from Mitch. I absolutely believe they could’ve had any of those listed above. This is stunning and hilarious and I’m having a good time.
