Kentucky is killing the portal. Just landed the #1 QB

Yes. Have you not looked at the mock drafts? Levis is top 10 in basically all of them. Mel Kiper even recently said he was the #1 pick. Seems crazy, I know. But true.

Wow, I thought Guarantano put his jersey on and played against us.

What is going on in Lexington? I was looking at their Rivals site and they have high level portal guys coming in left and right. They just got Devin Leary, the #1 QB in the portal from NC State. I guess all the Will Levis draft hype made a difference. They have also landed dudes from the likes of Bama, OSU, Cincinnati, Michigan, and others.

Don’t know what is so attractive up there at the basketball school right now, but I hope CJH starts to dive a little harder into the portal before the Orange Bowl. Disappointed in our efforts there so far.

But no matter what UK does, they still won’t beat us!
Tell me the other great players KY has gotten in the portal.

Snarks,It's still Kentucky and that reminds all that they sucky when they play Tennessee. They got the number one qb in the portal, which means he wasn't going to be the starter at N.C.State next year.Even with getting Cohen back as OC,no Rodriguez(spelling),o line or db's,win the first six a2-4,or1-5the next six.Remember what you saw with Levis,98yards passing, int's,sacks.Different qb,same end result.

They picked up CB JQ Hardaway, a player that we were supposedly interested in ourselves. Looks like a promising prospect, but I'm sure KY can eff it up.

Those guys are in the portal for a reason...............JMO, but Leary ain't the best QB in the portal.

Hendon Hooker worked out. Hopefully Joe Milton works out. We've had several WRs work out well for us now. It's kind of silly at this point to pretend that schools can't get better through the portal. Hell, that's how Mel Tucker got that huge contract he didn't deserve.

True about those guys being there for a reason, but according to every site I’ve looked at, Leary is ranked #1 in the portal. He was on all the NFL Draft boards with Stroud, Young, Levis, etc, before he got hurt this year.
Yeah good for KY I guess but if we take care of business that’s all I’m worried about. You could argue that the stronger KY and SC are, and we keep our upwards trajectory, the harder it makes it for teams like UF/AU to rebuild to where they’d like to be.

Enamored? Lol. Yeah, ok. I was going back and forth about Levis in another thread here, yes. I’m certainly no fan of him or anything to do with Kentucky. I used to live there and despise all things UK. I was just simply saying that the experts love the guy. Not me. But I can see why they do, whereas many are baffled by the hype surrounding the kid.

The experts have loved a lot of QBs over the years and many of them don’t pan out. Levis will be the same. His production doesn’t lie.

Matt Leinhart, Chad Pennington, Brady Quinn, Tim Couch, all first rounders, all busts. I could go on and on, this ain’t a short list. It’s just what they do. I’ve always thought it was crazy how much QBs get picked early. I’d draft the great lineman or corners and RBs (due to shelf life) before a QB that Mel kiper believed in

They are enamored with his "skill set."
I look at production. But, what do I know???

My preference would be that players start thinking UK is the place where QBs go to die. It didn't work well for Levis, if they bomb this new guy the good QBs wil notl want to go there. Trust me, after 60+ years of watching UT and its opponents I've seen a lot of versions of UK football, you will have those 2-3 year runs where UK will be decent, but it's never more than decent. They will return to what they always have been in football, the dog-assed cats. (Small c intended.)

Tennessee is back to the level of not worrying about what Kentucky does. Never should have sank that low in the first place.

At this point, Alabama and Georgia are all I’m worried about on next year’s schedule. I can’t wait to kick Florida’s ass in the Swamp.

Good point. Hooker was a diamond in the rough. I don’t see Leary being as such but who knows?
You don’t see him being a diamond in the rough because he’s already established, correct? The dude threw for 3,500 yards, 35 & 5 in 2021. He’s definitely way more than a potential diamond in the rough.

It is the only way and hope they have of competing - their actual recruiting this cycle is very poor. They don't have another qb on campus - they can offer starter from day one - Will was talented and was forced to try to play without protection or receivers. He will look better in the pros than he did at times at Ky.
It is not a great landing spot for Leary for similar reasons. Most everyone else not named Ole Miss have qb's on campus that you at least have to compete with to get the job. Congrats to them in the portal - but overall I would much rather be Tenn, Ala, Georgia, LSU, etc. etc.

Unless Kentucky drastically changes its offense I am not worried about their Qb.

We can just sack Leary 4 times and pick him off twice on his trip to the first round too.

They did bring back their old OC, Liam Coen.

KY has two good WRs, and Davis should be a good RB. Leary should be at least a mid level SEC QB. Can't ever remember a good TE there.

OL was horrible and they did get an OT from the portal as well.

They will be competitive on offense, especially compared to last season.

Umm that dude is a statue behind a terrible oline at Kentucky, there is zero comparison between him and Hooker

I agree with all you mentioned as busts except for Pennington. His career in the NFL lasted a decade.

I heard all season about how talented Levis was and how good their RB was and how good their defense and their o-line was. And yet they collapsed against us and pretty much every decent team they played. TBH, it's hard for me to get too concerned about Ky stockpiling talent. Somehow, it doesn't seem to matter how talented they are. Their system just doesn't exploit the talent they have.
