Kevin Durant on Bruce Pearl

How many coaches who have never advanced past the round of 16 are being paid a salary equal to or larger than Pearl's?

Sean Miller makes nearly as much as Pearl and, had he not lucked into riding Dwayne Wade, Tom Crean would fulfill that criteria as well.

Regardless, this argument doesn't account for the fact that the SEC is awash in money from the ESPN contract and Pearl is paid according to market value. His market is the SEC and he's paid at #3. That's why Anthony Grant and Mark Fox are top 25 coaches in pay as well.

I will bet that you said that about Auburn last year.

That was a bad loss that I was surprised by.

I have been disappointed during the tenure of CBP. He is not my Messiah.

If we lose to UGA unless our starting 5 are in jail or in the hospital I will be very upset.

And Sean Miller has also made an elite eight.

Oh yeesh with the Elite 8 bs.

It is an obvious fact to anyone who understands basketball that a coach at GT who has gone 2 whole rounds further than Bruce Pearl has wasted more talent as a coach than Bruce has seen his entire career.

When Bruce has Elite 8 talent which I expect in the next year and the year after, you can be mad if he does not make an Elite 8. It is even remotely possible if we have top 50 players who stick around while other programs have injuries and guys leaving for the NBA that we may be one of the top 4 programs in talent in the nation. Right now we have top 25 talent, but we do not physically have top 10 talent. Some teams are under performing with their talent, some are over performing.

Also to reiterate from several weeks ago with posts, if you do not believe that a guy can go from outside the first round to a lottery pick primarily based on a huge NCAA tournament performance for the duration of the tournament you do not know much about basketball.

If Wayne Chism dominates some NBA big men this year against Kansas and in SEC play and then in the NCAAs he will play himself into some money. If he does not he wont. It is on his big shoulders.

Yeah, I forgot about the Xavier run. Still, one game and I stand by my comment about the market value.

I'm ok with Pearl making the 2 mill plus; however, he surely has to understand that when you're being paid elite money, it's time to produce some elite results. The raise comes at a price, expectations.

i wonder if coach K woulda blown a 20 point halftime lead over ohio state.

if pearls teams showed improvement from season start to season end...

if pearls teams ever peaked... and i mean EVER peaked during a season...

if i could just see those 2 things... i might consider giving him credit for being a coach rather than just an "attention getter".

its quite obvious to me that the vast majority of the pearl supporters are just happy to have a competitive team. it's obvious that most of them probably don't know much about basketball x's and o's and don't really know what to watch for during a game other than the scoreboard. they are happy to watch their team play in the tournament. they get absolutely giddy and all tigglee inside that UT bball even gets 1 second on ESPN.

hmmmm... makes me kinda miss the football forum.

Yeah, you are just oozing with basketball knowledge. Let's see, #8 team in the country, 8-1; sure, we are just "competitive". Wow, I simply can't believe the amount of irrational venom for Pearl on this board.

Anyway, yep, you should probably go back to the football board before you make more a fool of yourself.

Paul Hewitt took Ga Tech to the NC game, that's actually 3 rounds further.

I agree with your second point, Patrick O'Bryant is the glaring example.

I saw him blow a 20 point halftime lead against Pitt two years ago. That was a regular season game though.

It was 11 years ago and against the future NC, but they were up on UK by 18 in the 98' tourney.

When Billy Packer cried tears of Agony over Wojo getting bent like a pretzel by Magloire.

I wouldn't call Pearl a great coach but he is certainly a great recruiter and while we be at our peak with him, I hope he doesn't go anywhere soon.

We haven't beaten anyone worth a dime yet.

Bruce has never been dominated while I have been watching him by a team with less physical talent than I just watched in Duke losing to Wisconsin.

If you examine any college basketball coach from Buzz Peterson to HOF guy you will find bad losses.

Ohio State had two lottery pick NBA guys, we had zero

Please. uK has owned Pearl with some awful teams. Duke has limited athleticism. It is what it is.

OSU's lottery guys were 18 year old freshmen and one wasn't playing the first time around.

if i remember right... there is something eerily similar about the last 5 seconds of the OSU game and the last 13 seconds of a recent loss. maybe something like the 3rd best option taking some wild prayer of a shot over a shot blocking 7 footer while an all american watches.

one of favorite lines.... "pearl is a great recruiter". really? i mean really?????

a great recruiter gets great players not just players that everyone thinks are great players. great recruiters are also great evaluators of talent.

Which, if memory serves, was eerily similar to the last few seconds of the SECCG played 1 week earlier.

Bruce was turned down by lots of great players, thats why he ended up with Jurick and Ramar Smith. Jurick also had the Chris Donald problem, you cannot anger the fans by passing on a highly rated local boy.

Now we get Tobias Harris and let another Chattanooga giant head to UConn instead of not fitting in here.

This post shows an absolutely hilarious lack of basketball knowledge.

Taking a top notch transfer is something HOF coaches have done for a very long time.

Sigh, you obviously quit reading after the first sentence, because you disregarded the "That's not even the point" comment.

I have said before that with 4 seniors if we do not get to the Elite 8 I would be disappointed. I do not know if you looked at bracketology, but if we had UNLV 2nd game and UNC 3rd which is how they had it slotted I would say the draw sucked. TN would be UNLV, then UNC, then Syracuse on the latest Lunardi (which I know is very much subject to change).

Depending on our seed I may expect a Final 4, an Elite 8 etc. Winning all remaining OOC except Kansas is important for a high enough seed to give us a shot at Elite 8 this year. The SEC is much better than last year, so there are only 4 teams we know we will beat without trying too hard.

And expecting this team to get to an Elite 8 shows your "hilarious lack of basketball knowledge". You have your head so far up Pearl's a** that you can't see how this team has shown us nothing has changed except maybe playing harder on defense.

But who even knows about that? Playing tough D against Wyoming at home shouldn't be something to hang your hat on.

My lack of bball knowledge, please. Take a look in the mirror.
