I really don't know why you and VH are so insistent on this point that at the very best is debatable... but probably not even that. UT under CPF has done a pretty good job of "coaching them up" or else finding guys others miss. They're in the top 5 for putting guys in the pros and not in the top 5 on avg with recruiting according to the services.
.

you make my point for me. top 5 for putting guys in the pros and how many championships do we have to show for it? And you can be top 10 in recruiting classes and still have top tier talent in college fb, you dont have to be top 5. You guys alway defend phil with his recruiting prowess, but we have little to show for it. Are you really defending Phil's rep for developing talent? I think most people will tell you that Phil is at his best when he has better talent than his opponent. If everything's even, well, that usually doesnt go his way.

Well, I'm personally happy to see some linemen recruited.

Didn't some people mention earlier that it is really difficult to rate linemen with stars??

No. I am accepting the EXACT same FACTS that you state in this post and am saying it points to a different problem.

Guys don't come out of HS ready to play in the pros. CPF has taken a great number of players with various rankings and sent them to the NFL. UT develops players.

Yes. They beat teams when they have more talent... that is completely consistent with what I said the problem is. They also play closer games than they should against lesser talented teams. That all points to a problem with game day coaching IMO far more than to a lack of player talent+development.

Wow, I don't think but 1 post on this 2nd page is about Kevin Revis.

This forum has become as bad as the main board.

He reminds me of how Rob Smith looked when he shaved off the beard. He's a younger dude, but he'll probably always have a bit of a baby face. The other O-linemen at UT will teach him to put on some facial hair to hide it.

Hillbilly, I said nothing remotely close to fulmer "coaching up" in state sleepers better than out of state kids. I'm not a big proponent of fulmer's ability to motivate or out-scheme elite coaches. I'm not quite as caustic towards him as you, but I generally lack faith in him to get us back to the promised land... especially now that we can't "out talent" our rivals.

My point was, when you're down and really need to dig down and gut it out... I'd rather have a 3* kid thats always been a VOL who has heart and passion than a 4* out of state prima donna thats gonna roll over because he has no heart or character.

sure, that makes perfect sense, give us all the guys that love Tennessee and run 8 sec 40's. Tell Phil Im waiting by the fax machine for my offer.

Thats not what I said either, Rex. I'm the wrong target in the quest for negativity on Fulmer, I'm not sold on the guy myself.

Yeah, I really want an 8 second 40 guy... give me a break.

But heart and passion, when there isn't a great disparity in perceived "talent," i.e. 3* versus 4* (note I didn't say 5* versus 2*)... give me the guy with heart, the guy that will play with pain, the guy that will lay it all on the field and not pull up because of risking injury for his NFL career.

4* guy with heart, even better... but my point is clear now hopefully.

It is a reflection on coaching when a bum like Larry Coker is able to get more out of his talent than Fulmer.

I wouldn't go that far. Larry Coker had teams twice as talented (perhaps even moreso) than Fulmer did. It took an especially terrible coach to not win the NC with that 2002 Miami team.

I was impressed with his video. He went to the whistle on every play and was a mean blocker, which was surprising considering his baby face :birgits_giggle:

New article up on TFP today on this kid. He still looks to me like he's about 12 years old.

Chattanooga Times Free Press | Rhea County: Vols recruit Revis can focus on Rhea?s season

It sounds like his coach wants to get in on our stars debate:

Jason Fitzgerald said. “I’ve seen guys that were rated five-star players who never got on the field, and I’ve seen one-star players who went on to become All-Americans. If Kevin was a junior like most of the kids his age, I don’t think anybody would be calling him a project.”
