Q: How different does it feel to come visit UT under new head coach Lane Kiffin and his completely new staff?
REVIS: “It feels a little bit different. I haven’t met anyone but Coach Kiffin. It does feel different, but the bottom line is it’s still Tennessee.”
Q: Are you excited about the new staff?
REVIS: “Yes, sir. Most definitely. They know how to push kids and develop players, from what I’ve heard.”
Q: How many unofficial visits have you taken to UT the past few years?
REVIS: “I didn’t go on any until my senior year, but I went up there four or five times this summer, and I went to every game this season. I’ve been to Knoxville a lot.”
Q: Were you at all worried about the coaching situation? Or did you always feel confident that Kiffin and his staff would honor Phillip Fulmer’s commitment to you?
REVIS: “At first I was kind of worried, because it’s not always standard procedure for coaches to keep all the current commitments. I thought I might have to look around for a while, even if I didn’t really want to go anywhere else, but (UT men’s athletic director Mike) Hamilton called and said I still had my place, and that was all I needed to hear. I was 100 percent again just like that, and that hasn’t changed.”
Q: Are you glad you waited to use your official visit, considering the coaching change?
REVIS: “Yes, sir. I am glad it’s worked out his way. I was blessed, really, to get this weekend as my official. I’m obviously committed, but it will be great to meet all the new coaches and talk to Coach Kiffin again.”
Q: Other guys aren’t as lucky, though. Can you feel for Philadelphia wide receiver Je’Ron Stokes, who’s been committed to UT for months but officially visited while Coach Fulmer was here?
REVIS: “Yes, sir. I think it’s a tough situation for him, being so far away and wanting to get down here to see what it’s going to be like and everything. He’s a great player, for sure, so I hope it all works out.”
Q: Have you done any recruiting the past few months?
REVIS: “Yes, sir. I have been calling a lot of people, just trying to put in a good word about Tennessee. But in my mind, everybody knows what Tennessee is all about, and how great it is.
“I talk to Toney Williams and Nigel-Mitchell Thornton and Zach Rogers quite a bit, and I’ve texted with a lot of the other guys. They’re good guys and great players, and I’m excited to play with them.”
Q: What will be different about your official visit, compared with all your unofficials?
REVIS: “Well, for one, I’ve never been to a Tennessee basketball game, and we’re playing Memphis this weekend, so that’s cool (laughter).”
Q: How big are you these days?
REVIS: “I’m about 6-3 and somewhere between 265 and 270 (pounds).”
Q: Could you describe your first one-on-one meeting with Kiffin?
REVIS: “He came to my school right before Christmas break, and we had a good talk. He said they’re looking for more athletic linemen, so my size wouldn’t be a problem in his system. He told me he liked my film, how I was always aggressive and finished blocks, and he said he was excited to coach me. That was all I needed to know, honestly.”
Q: Did other schools try to re-recruit you during the coaching search, or during the Kiffin transition?
REVIS: “I haven’t talked to any of the other schools, really. Some have tried, but I think everybody’s kind of known that I would stick with Tennessee. Stanford and some other schools told me to call them back if I wasn’t happy with the coaching change, but I’m fine, and I’m still all Vol, so no one really bothers me.”
Q: You said you’ve had only one meeting with Kiffin, and you haven’t spoken with any of the new assistants. Does that bother you at all?
REVIS: “I’m not one of those guys that needs coaches to talk to me every day and check on me and make sure I’m still good. I’ve always known where I wanted to go, and when I got that offer, that was it. Coach Kiffin told me one time that he liked me and wanted me up there, and that was all I needed. He and the other coaches have other things they need to be doing right now, and other guys they need to see, and that’s the way it should be. I just can’t wait to get up there.”
