Key to beating Clemson

Is find a way to control Shipley. Keep him under 20 carries & 80 yds & Vols look good. If he has 120+ yds rushing, could be a long night.
We have to limit his YACs too. He’s very good catching the ball out of the backfield. He’ll be a tough matchup for a linebacker or safety.

The key to winning is getting ALL your players to play. These games are meaningless now. I can understand both sides but the bowl game outside the playoffs are littered with teams without their most productive players.

Have to disagree, respectfully. The approach is to prepare the kids coming back next year with all the extra practice, reps, schemes and such. It's almost like the bowl game is the first game for next season. As an example, Squirrel White getting all the first team reps this week in Hyatt's place, much like he would the last week of next August. I'm excited to see some of the young guys get to play.

As a fan, I get the mindset. We’re not winning a championship this year. But for a player or coach, talk like that is asinine. This isn’t pop warner. I would direct everyone who says this to this video:

That's freaking priceless. I'd like to have seen a coach years ago respond to our a$$ wipe (John Adams) that way.

I LOVE IT!!! This is exactly right!!! This is not a useless game by any stretch of the imagination. This is growth, this is progression, this is building on tradition and getting back to elite level.

I think we need to score TDs on 2/3 of our possessions. I don't think Clemson can match that efficiency with a young QB.

I don't like the matchup right now. Clemson's defense is really good. Tennessee is missing a lot of firepower and lacked a pass defense. If DJ were still the QB the boys get the win. Joe or the entire defense needs to play lights out to get the W.

Pass coverage
Create pressure
Get Joe comfortable and build his confidence
Run, run, run the ball.

Pass rush, pass rush, pass rush. Pressure, pressure, pressure.

That might not be enough. Klubnik can run. Shipley and Mafeh are effective receivers out of the backfield. Mafeh completed a 1st down pass to Klubnik in the ACCCG, too.

Clemson has two really good tight ends - Allen and Briningstool as well. Gonna be tough to cover them all.

That sounds like a spring practice, not a bowl game...

True. But none of the early enrollees can play in this game. So basically the vols will be shorthanded.

The power grid. We've got to control the lights when Clemson has the ball.

Last time we played a team from SC we had linebackers chasing backs all over the place. Doesn't sound good.
