Key to beating Clemson

Somewhat dislike to sound trite, but the key is to score more points! Forget how well or poorly our defense plays or if we have lots of "wild" passes or how well their offense plays or if their defense "shines", just set these things aside and score more points,,, we win!

Is find a way to control Shipley. Keep him under 20 carries & 80 yds & Vols look good. If he has 120+ yds rushing, could be a long night.
The key for this one and our games in general under Heupel...the QB. We get a guy who can run this offense, and we can beat anyone on any given day. If the QB isn't up to speed, we're in trouble against a lot of teams.

Not feeling a TN win in this game, Milton is going to have to hit those wide open receivers downfield which he has proven he cannot do consistently, so when he overthrows the receiver, it is just a throwaway play. Defense will need to put pressure on Clemson QB early and often, much like they did against Pitt earlier this season. Banks will struggle coaching defense in this game.

Clemson-35
Vols-24

The key to this game is just like any other. It all starts on the lines of scrimmage. If we allow Clemsons front 4 to wreck shop on a consistent basis, then it’s over. If we don’t get pressure with 4 on Klubnik, then it’s gonna be a long game.

Except it's not next year, it's the final game of this year. All players from this year are available to play. A bowl game shouldn't be a dumbed down scrimmage for eligible players. Some guys never practiced at a #1, so really it's worse than the first game as they will have much more prep at their position for game 1 next year. Saying it's game 1 for next year is ridiculous. If that's the case then sit all the seniors.

Hell I'm all for giving players an incentive to play. Let the sponsors of the bowl game pay tremendous amounts of money to the players that make stats in the game. Bowl games are going to be really dumb after the 12 team playoff, they will really be pointless then.

Well I guess you'll need to find something else to do Friday, December 30 at 8pm, 7 o'clock central...............

I watch college football to see these young men strive and make plays, for our appreciation and enjoyment. I don't know why a bowl game would be any less of that. But further, this bowl game will be watched nationally by folks who talk about college football and compare teams and players. Lastly, potential recruits will be watching, too. If someone doesn't get any of these things ... maybe go fishing instead?

I say we put a sniper in the stands. If we can get him to shoot the shoelaces off of the cleats they will trip over themselves.

We win!!

Honestly Cade doesn’t really worry me. He has basically only played 1 full game. It was against a terrible garbage NC defense. We will put a lot of pressure on him and I think that will throw him off enough to make a lot of mistakes. Everyone in our secondary should be well rested and if they play like they did against Kentucky, we’ll be fine. This isn’t Bryce young. This is a kid with almost no college playing experience.

Agree with the OP. There is no guarantee that Klubnik won't play lights out and beat the Vols like Rattler did. But he has a history of making bad reads prior to the UNC game. UT's run D needs to force the game into Klubnik's hands... and the secondary needs another UK performance.

That video is irrelevant. Those teams didn't have their most productive players opting out. If the game was important the best players would play. The reason they don't play is risk of injury and they don't gain a thing even with a mvp performance. When pro, your money is based on your production so even players on the 3-12 teams have a reason to play. Bowl games are meaningless since the playoffs. The evidence is right in front of you. Look at all the opt outs if they were projected high draft picks.
Tillman has been out a lot we played very well without him at times. Hyatt is out and Hooker is injured so that can’t be helped. So in reality we have 1 player that opted out that we will miss and that is Hyatt. We will miss Tillman too but with his nagging injury I never expected him to play.Banks grades was going to keep him out. Beasley has had a lot of practice time to be more prepared this time. So truly the opt out is no more problem than grades or injuries that have always contributed to players being out in bowl games. The team and fans are excited as for any fans saying they aren’t excited or our players aren’t motivated just do us a favor and tune out Friday night we don’t need ya!!!! Plenty of support and our team will be ready!!!!!!GBO!!!!!

Amen, for those that don’t think this is a important game I really hope they don’t watch. Opt out, injuries or grades. For the players suiting up it’s a big game. For the ones playing there last game in a Tennessee uniform it’s a big game. Going out against a top 10 team trying to get win 11 it’s a big game. Showing the nation Tennessee has turned the corner it’s a big game. For the players coming back it’s a big game and something to build on in the spring. For this coaching staff it is a big game that could vault us into the top 5 if we win. For the truly great fans in Bug Orange Country it is a big game. Great teams step up, players step up. This is a opportunity for younger players to make a early jump on next year. This team has come along way and a close group overall. We will come out and play hard and inspired football. All I can say to fans that think it is a meaningless game is your clueless but if you feel that way don’t deprive yourself of doing something else you enjoy I wouldn’t want anyone to watch something they view as meaningless and irrelevant. There are plenty of Vol fans that are excited to watch and cheer on the Vols!!!! GBO

If we can eek out 550 yards passing and 350 rushing while holding Clemson to under 300 total yards and win the special teams and turnovers battle, I think we got a chance!

All three of those players would play if it was a playoff game. Even if it was just Hyatt, that's the most productive player from either team, arguably the best player in the game. The award winning game changer as they say. You're trying to justify it, I understand, but go look at high caliber players opting out, not just TN. I can think of a few. Ky Levis, Fl Richardson, Tx Robinson... There are around 40 NFL draft board opt outs IIRC. The Rose bowl even has opt outs and that's the biggest bowl outside the playoff. I like the bowl games, give the kids incentive to play. Pay em for putting up numbers in these games. I'm not sure why you are trying to make it seem like I'm not a fan, that's the opposite. I want them to play but don't think they should because they have nothing to gain. The game is meaningless for the (draft eligible) players, not the fans. You can thump your orange chest while drunkenly telling us all what you think a real fan is but it doesn't make it so.

You wanna know how you can tell these games are busted? Watch the Vegas lines. The spreads will be extremely far off. Vegas doesn't make huge spread mistakes like is fixing to happen.

We will need to put pressure on their QB. Except for a couple of games, this has presented a challenge.
